The DeKalb West School Bulldogs baseball team managed to get a game in the books last week despite all the dreary and rainy weather, getting a big with against Gordonsville last Thursday. DWS opened up with two runs in the first, then ran away with the game in the third.
Gordonsville would go three and out to start the game against the arm of Preston Taylor, while Cooper Odom struck out at first at bat for the Bulldogs. Anthony Moore would then fly out to second base, but Taylor would step up next. He would double with a hit out to right field, then Porter Hancock would take a base with a wild pitch. Reed Midgett would get a double driving in two runs. Elliot Barnes would be struck out, but DeKalb was up after one, 2-0.
Taylor would strike out Gordonsville’s next batter, with the next flying out to center. The next would be hit to Taylor who would get the easy out at first.
The Bulldogs would not do much better in the second inning, with Anderson Fortner striking out, before Collin Donnell flew out to the pitcher, and Andrew Cathey would hit to third and be caught at first.
The next up for Gordonsville would be retired by Taylor, then they would get one on with a walk. He would later be caught at third. The next batter would line to third and be caught at first. The Bulldogs were still ahead, 2-0.
DeKalb put the game away as they came to bat in the third. After Odom was out at first with a hit to second, Moore would get on with an error. Taylor and Hancock would each get on after wild pitches, followed by Midgett taking a base with a walk. Barnes would then double with a hit to right, followed by a single by Fortner.
Donnell would then step up and hit it out of the park. Cathey would then fly out to center, then Odom came back around with another easy trip to first base. Moore and Taylor would also walk, with Odom taking home plate, before Hancock ended the inning striking out. The Bulldogs commanded a 10-0 lead.
Gordonsville had one last turn at bat, but would never get to home plate. Barnes would end the game from the mound, striking out two, before walking two. He would get one more strike out to end the game.
