The Bulldogs of DeKalb West School claimed a couple of victories last week, playing a pair of games on their home court.
On Monday, November 7, the boys’ were at home hosting Southside. It would be a close game in the first period, then the Bulldogs would sprint away.
The Bulldogs score three points in the first period, off of a two-pointer by Ben Barton and a free throw by Porter Handcock. Southside kept the game close, scoring on a two-point basket.
DeKalb caught fire in the second period, with Chase Young coming away with a pair of two-pointers and a three-point shot, while Ben Driver had a two-pointer and a free throw. Ethan Brown and Hancock each added a two-pointer of their own. Southside was held to just two points, giving the Bulldogs a 17-4 lead at the half.
The Bulldogs kept on steamrolling in the third period, adding another 12 points to the board. Young had a two-pointer, three-pointer and a free throw, while Hancock added a couple of two-point baskets, while Carson Davis had a couple of free throws. Southside was held to seven points, giving DeKalb a 29-11 lead.
DWS scored six more points in the fourth period, with a pair of two-pointers by Young, and one by Jackson Dunnaway. Southside scored 12, but the Bulldogs claimed the 35-25 win.
The following night the Bulldogs were once again on their home court, this time facing Carroll-Oakland. Once again, the boys would be victorious.
The Bulldogs came away with nine points to start the game, with Chase Young hitting a three-point and two-point baskets, and Ethan Brown sinking a pair of two-pointers. Carroll-Oakland was held to just four points.
Young sank four two-point hoops for the Bulldogs in the second period, while Porter Hancock added a pair of free throw points. Again, Carroll-Oakland was held to four points, giving DWS a 19-8 lead at the half.
Brown hot a couple of two-point baskets for DWS in the third period, while Young, Drew Cook, and Hancock each had a two-point shot of their own. Ben Driver added a free throw point. Carroll-Oakland finally got into the game, scoring 14 points, but the Bulldogs maintained a 30-22 lead.
Hancock caught fire for the Bulldogs in the fourth period with four two-pointer and a pair of free throw points. Young had one two-point shot and a free throw, while Driver and Cook each had a free throw. Carroll-Oakland came away with only eight points, giving DeKalb the 45-30 victory.
