The DeKalb West School Bulldogs baseball team played one game last week, with a scheduled game on Saturday against York called due to rain. Once again, the Bulldogs added a notch to the win column.
On Tuesday, April 20, the Bulldogs were on their home field, as the hosted visiting Algood. DeKalb would take the early lead, but Algood would surge late in the game.
Algood struck in the first inning with one run, but the Bulldogs came away with two runs at their first at bats. Ty Webb came home after a Westley Kent single off of a line drive to left field, and Tyler Jackson scored on the throw. At the end of one, DWS was up 2-1.
Algood went three and out at the top of the second, then the Bulldogs added two more runs. Jordan Parker grounded out to second, allowing Luke Johnson to score, then Dallas Kirby was out on a sacrifice fly to center field as Luke Midgett touched home plate.
At the top of the third inning, Algood kept things close by adding another run, but DWS countered with a run of their own. Kent singled on a grounder to right field, as Jackson scored again. At the end of three, DWS held a 5-2 lead.
The game went into the fifth inning, and Algood kept Bulldog fans on edge. With one on base, Algood knocked one out of the park. They cut the lead to one, but that would be as far as they would get. The Bulldogs held on for the 5-4 win.
Jackson led the Bulldogs on the mound, surrendering six hits and four runs in five innings, striking out nine and walking two. Kent went two for two at the plate with three RBIs.
