Isaac Spiderman Beck shows some superpowers against Central Magnet last week.

The DeKalb County High School Tigers basketball team had a busy week, playing three games as their regular season begins to wind down. The boys would play some tough teams, but would come away with a couple of wins.

 

On Feb. 3, the Tigers were at home where they hosted a team from Central Magnet of Murfreesboro. DeKalb wasted no time putting points on the scoreboard.

 

The Tigers scored 21 points in the first period, with Justin Bone starting out on fire. He scored two three-pointers, a pair of two-pointers, and three free throw points. Isaac Beck and Aaron Patterson each had a three-point shot of their own, while Gentry Harpole added a two-pointer. Central Magnet tried to keep pace, scoring 15 points.

 

Bone was the top scorer in the second period, with three two-point baskets and a couple of free throws. Kevin Aldino had a pair of two-point shots, while Marshal Evins had one. CM was held to only three points, giving DeKalb a 35-18 lead at halftime.

 

Central outscored DeKalb in the third period, with 10 points to DeKalb’s seven. For the Tigers, Harpole had three two-point baskets, while Aldino added a free throw. The Tigers maintained the lead, 42-28.

 

The Tigers stepped up in the fourth period, scoring 12 points. Haggard had a three-point shot, while Harpole had a two-pointer. Bone got three free throw points, while Beck and Patterson each had two. CM also scored 12 points, but it was far from enough. DeKalb took the win, 54-40.

 

Bone was eight for 12 on free throws, while Beck and Patterson were each two for four. Aldino was one for three, while Jonathon Munoz was zero for two.

 

On Feb. 5, the Tigers were again on their home hardwood, this time taking on tough border rival Cannon County. The game would stay close, but it would not be the Tigers’ evening.

 

The Tigers opened up the game with nine points on the scoreboard. Beck had two two-pointers, while Bone came away with a three-point shot. Haggard also had a two-point basket. The Lions jumped out with the lead, with 11 points.

 

DeKalb scored 12 points in the second period, with Haggard getting a two and three-point basket, while Patterson and Beck each got a two-pointer. Bone had a two-point basket and a free throw. Cannon scored 17 points, taking a 28-21 halftime lead.

 

Beck scored a three-point shot and a free throw in the third period, while Haggard added a three-point basket and Bone a two-pointer. The Lions scored eight, taking a 36-30 lead.

 

The Tigers came away with 11 points in the fourth period, with Bone and Patterson each getting a two-pointer and a three-pointer, while Aldino added a free throw point. Cannon County scored 14, sealing their 50-41 win.

 

Beck, Aldino, and Bone were each one for two on free throws.

 

On Feb. 7, the Tigers were on the road, in Smith County to take on the Gordonsville Tigers. The game would stay close through all four quarters, and come down to the final minutes.

 

The Tigers scored 17 points in the first period, with Patterson getting a pair of three-point baskets and a two-pointer, while Haggard got a three-point shot of his own. Aldino had a two-pointer and a couple of free throws, while Beck had two free throw points. Gordonsville stayed within striking distance with 14 points on the board.

 

DeKalb came away with six points in the second period, with Aldino getting two two-pointers, while Beck got one. Gordonsville came on strong with nine points, tying the score at halftime, 23 all.

 

Beck had a good quarter in the third period, scoring four two-point baskets and a couple of free throws, while Patterson got the long shots with three three-point shots. Gordonsville was held to nine points, with DeKalb regaining the lead, 42-32.

 

The Tigers scored 11 points in the fourth period, with Beck taking a three-pointer and a pair of free throws, Patterson a three-pointer and a free throw, and Evins a two-pointer. Gordonsville made the game interesting, coming away with 20 points in the final period, falling one point short. DeKalb took the win, 53-52.

 

Beck was six for seven on free throws, while Aldino was two for two. Patterson was one for two, while Harpole was zero for one.
