Coach pitch saw action on Friday night when the Liberty State Bank Canes took on the Tenneco Titans.
The Canes edged out with a 10-9 victory, just slipping past the Titans.
In the top of the first, the Canes shut down the Titans not giving up any runs.
In the bottom of the first, the Canes ripped the Titans for four runs.
In the top of the second, the Titans settled down to tack on two runs against the Canes, cutting their lead to two runs.
The Canes wouldn't back down as they fired off six more runs to add to their total with two players hitting inside-the-park home runs.
Refusing to be outdone, the Titans blew up in the third, bashing out six runs of their own and coming within two runs of the Canes.
The Titans took a stand in the bottom of the third as they did not allow the Canes to cross the plate for a score.
In the end the Canes came out on top, as their defense sealed the victory by allowing only one run and putting an end to the Titans’comeback, holding onto their one-point win.
The next game was the Turner Auto Parts Hitters versus the DeKalb Community Bank Bucks. The Bucks came out on top as they put together a 9-7 win.
In the top of the first, the Bucks had success as they drove in three runs against the solid Hitters defense. In the bottom of the first, the Hitters’ answered back and bettered the Bucks with four runs scored.
In the top of the second, the Bucks evened the score as they brought in a run. The Hitters were shut out in the the bottom of the second, due to the solid play of the defense that kept the Bucks with in striking distance of the win.
In the third inning both teams brought in two runs, making it a tie ballgame with six runs a piece.
The fourth inning proved to be crucial for the Hitters, as they allowed three runs to cross the plate and gave the Bucks the lead with only half an inning to play.
The Bucks were too much, holding the Hitters to just one run and taking the victory by a final score of 9-7.
More Coach-pitch baseball took place later on in the evening when the DTC Rowdy Ringtones took on the Hendrix Law Defenders.
DTC defeated the Defenders in a 10-1 blow-out victory.
In the top of the first, the Ringtones managed to drive in two runs while holding the Defenders to just one run.
In the second inning, the Ringtones fired off four more runs, pulling away from the Defenders as they couldn’t drive in any runs and were scoreless in the second inning.
Both teams were scoreless through the third and fourth inning, as play was at a standstill with the Ringtones still maintaining a 6-1 lead.
In the top of the fifth, the Ringtones sounded off with a five-run showing to extend their lead to nine runs.
The Defenders were defenseless to the sharp play of the Ringtones and were shut out in the inning to end the game.
The last game of the night was the A-Plus Flames and the Aztec De Oto team.
The Flames were the victor in the match-up, winning over Aztec 11-3.
Aztec was first off to bat, but had no luck scoring with only two hits in the inning. The Flames fared a bit better as they managed one run across the plate.
In the second inning, Aztec again had to settle with zero runs scored. The speedy defense of the Flames proved to be tough to break through. While the Flames ‘defense was still holding their ground, the Aztecs were only one step behind, allowing just one run to be scored. The Aztecs were still in high spirits down only two runs.
In the third inning, the Aztecs came alive scoring three runs, and taking the lead for the first time in the game. Their excitement was short lived as the Flames came back to score two runs of their own, putting the Aztecs behind once again.
In the top of the fourth, the Flames would not let the Aztecs repeat their earlier success and shuting them down in the inning. The Flames also had a hot fourth inning when they blasted their opponents for seven runs, putting them far ahead of the Aztecs 11-3.
The Aztecs would have one more chance at a comeback victory in the top of the fifth. The Flames would have none of it and again shut out their opponents to seal their victory.
