Lance Davis came very close to spoiling the Cannon County shutout of DeKalb tennis this past week.

Cannon County had no love for the DeKalb County tennis team, beating them 15-love, sweeping the Tiger team on their home court this past week.

In men’s action, top seeded Lance Davis was almost close enough to taste victory, losing 9-7 to Luke Jakes while Eli Cantrell was defeated by Brady Cunningham, 8-3. Barrett Hayes rounded out the rout in men’s singles, losing to Cannon County’s Brandon Miles, 6-8. Davis and Cantrell lost the sole men’s doubles match, 1-8.

Women’s action went no better for DeKalb as they were swept by the very good Cannon County squad. Top seeded Tiger Faith Judkins was beaten 8-0 by Taylor Meeks, Hannah McBride was shutout by Dani Waisenen, 8-0; Kaley Padilla was blanked by Ashlyn Nokes, 8-0 and Ashlee Thompson lost to Lauren Underwood, 1-8. Meanwhile, Shelby Clayborn lost to Julianna Schan, 0-8, Katie Colwell lost to Tyger Kennedy, 1-8; Said Driver fell to Brandi Mason, 0-8, Daisy Hernandez lost to Ada Harwood, 3-8 and Ellie Webb couldn’t get past Jenna McMackins, losing 1-8.

The girl’s teams also fell in doubles, Judkins/McBride and Clayborn/Thompson both losing 2-8.

The tennis squads next play at Rhea County on March 21 and then come home to play host to Watertown on March 22.
