Cannon takes Tigers down in overtime

The DCHS Tigers traveled to Woodbury Friday night to face border rivals the Cannon County Lions.

 

The Tigers and the Lions fought into overtime before DeKalb was defeated 76-73. Cannon County led the game 25-12 after the first period of play, and extended their lead to 43-26 at halftime. The Tigers pulled back to within six points by the end of the third, with the score at 56-50, and a fourth quarter battle saw the game tied 69-69 at the final buzzer.

 

Cannon outpaced the Tigers 7-4 in overtime, however, taking the game by three points.

 

Tanner Poss led the Tigers with 28 points in the contest. Marshal Evins scored 20 points for the Tigers, and Trey Jones put 10 in. Gentry Harpole and Colter Norris scored six points each, and Austin Johnson added three points to DeKalb’s score.

 

The Tigers will travel to Baxter to face Upperman High School Friday night, and will visit Gordonsville Saturday evening. The Lady Tigers games tipoff at 6 p.m., and the Tigers games will follow.

 

Meanwhile, the Lady Tigers lost their game with the Cannon County Lionettes Friday night 61-55.

 

While the score was tied at 16-16 at the end of the first period, Cannon jumped out to a 31-25 lead by halftime. The Lionettes led 48-41 by the end of the third, and went on to win by six points.

 

Macy Hedge and Lydia Brown scored 13 points each for DeKalb, while Hannah Panter and Mya Ruch both put in eight. Emme Colwell scored five, Madison Parsley and Joni Robinson hit three points each, and Sophie Cripps added two.

 

The Lady Tigers will travel to Baxter to face Upperman High School Friday night, and will visit Gordonsville Saturday evening. Both games tipoff at 6 p.m.
