The DCHS baseball team fell twice to Central Magnet last week, with a 3-1 loss and an 8-0 rout on Tuesday in Murfreesboro.
The first game was a close contest until the end, with DeKalb maintaining a 1-0 advantage until the bottom of the sixth inning, when CM rallied for two runs on a DeKalb error, then added another to take the win.
In a defensive battle, Logan Cornelius, Brady Hughes, Colter Norris, Jacob Self, and John Maynard hit a single each for DeKalb, while Cornelius added a double. Steven Jennings sat down 10 CM batters from the mound, and gave up three runs on two hits.
In the next matchup, the Tigers allowed Central Magnet to jump out to an early lead from which DeKalb never recovered.
Central scored four runs in the first, and held on to the momentum, adding another in the second and three more in the third.
One bright spot for DeKalb County Tigers Varsity was a double by John Maynard hit a double and a single for the Tigers, and sent 12 batters back to the dugout on strikes. Christian Pruitt, Jacob Self, Lee Randolph and Grayson Redmon hit a single each, while Hunter Jennings recorded four strikeouts.
Central Magnet scored eight runs on 12 hits, committing no errors.
The Tigers met Northview Academy Saturday morning at the Gatlinburg Tournament, and gave them a 17-2 drumming.
DeKalb jumped out to a 2-0 lead when Jacob Self tripled in the first, then added one in the second, ten in the fourth, and four in the fifth. Northview put up two runs in the fourth inning.
In the fourth inning alone, Self hit a single and a double, and Brady Hughes, Paxton Butler and Logan Cornelius all singled. The Tigers had 17 runs on ten hits in the game.
Then DeKalb faced Lenoir City on Saturday afternoon, taking a 4-1 loss.
LC took a 2-0 lead in the first and never looked back. DeKalb scored once in the sixth, but LC added runs in the fourth and sixth to take the win.
Paxton Butler, John Maynard, Brady Hughes, Colter Norris, and Christian Pruitt hit a single each, and DeKalb committed no errors in the game.
The tigers traveled to Cannon County Monday, and hosted Cannon on Tuesday. The team will head for Gordonsville Thursday to play at 5 p.m.
