Within two shots of the lead after the opening round at the state championships on the links of Willowbrook Golf Course in Manchester, local golfing sensation Anna Chew was not able to reel in the leaders on the last day of the event, the DeKalb County senior finishing seventh in the state.

“She did really well and we are all proud of her,” said DeKalb Golf Coach John Pryor after the conclusion of her seven-over-par state championship appearance this past week. “She has showed so much improvement in her game and she was this close, competing with top-level competition, many of who are committed to play for major collegiate programs.”

Chew shot a 73 on the opening day of the event, good enough to stand second going into the second and final round, just two strokes back of the leader. However, a 78 on the second day saw her fall down the leader board. She ended up finishing seven strokes behind the eventual winner, Lynn Lim of Station Camp won the tournament with a two- day score of 144. Lim has committed to play collegiate golf at Vanderbilt University.

Chew advanced to the state finals for the second straight year after dominating the competition in consecutive weeks at the district and regional finals in Cookeville. Her success there came after several victories throughout the year in single’s competition for the Tiger golf team.

While she has driver her final drive as a Lady Tiger, she will continue her growth on the links in college as she has committed to play for Trevecca after graduation.
