Chew wins district tourney

DeKalb County High School golfer Anna Chew lapped the field this past week as she claimed the district golf championship with room to spare, winning the title by eight strokes.

Chew, made it to the state last year after strong showings at the district and regionals, left no question as to who runs District 6 when it comes to golf as she won the tourney by eight strokes. She shot a 73 on the day at the Golden Eagle Golf Course in Cookeville, the same course where she began the season with a strong showing at the Early Bird Tournament.

Her district title came over a field of 16 of the district’s best golfers, allowing her to advance to the Region tourney which will also be held at the Golden Eagle Course. A top three finish and she will advance to the state championship for the second year in a row. The state finals will be held at Willowbrook in Manchester Oct. 15-16, the same location as last year’s high school championship. Her success during the postseason comes after she named District 6 golfer of the year.

While Chew was dominant, none of the DeKalb County boys were able to advance out of the district round, meaning their season has come to an end.
