The DeKalb County Lady Tigers basketball team had some exciting games last week, and though the team didn’t come away with a win, they showed they were no pushovers. With a healthy squad, DeKalb kept within striking distance in both games.

On Tuesday, January 25, the Lady Tigers were at home where they hosted a team that blew out DeKalb 82-39 during their previous match. This time it would be a much closer game and they would make the White County Warriorettes work for their win.

White County jumped out with the lead early in the first period, but the Lady Tigers eventually got in gear and got things rolling. While the Warriorettes put 17 points on the board, DeKalb would end up matching them point for point. Xharia Lyons got things going with a two-point shot. Ella Van Vranken and Madison Martin would each come away with a two and three-point basket, while Avery Agee added a two-pointer and a free throw. Kadee Ferrell also sank a two-point shot. The game was tied at the end of one.

Ferrell sank a pair of two-pointers and a couple of free throws for the Lady Tigers in the second period, while Van Vranken added a pair of two-point shots and three free throws. White County would shift into third gear, coming away with 26 points, and the 43-30 halftime lead.

The Lady Tigers had dug a hole in the second period, but would begin clawing their way back in the third. DeKalb scored 10 points, while holding White County to only seven. Ferrell hit a two-pointer and five free throw shots, while Martin added a two-pointer and one free throw. DeKalb had cut the lead 50-40.

It came down to the fourth period, where the Lady Tigers would pull to within five at one point. DeKalb scored 16 points with Ella Hendrixson hitting a three-point basket, while Ferrell had a two-pointer and a pair of free throws. Van Vranken added four free throw points, Agee had three, and Martin had two free throws. While the Lady Tigers gave the Warriorettes a scare, in the end White County would score 17, taking the 67-56 win.

Ferrell scored 19 points in the game, while Van Vranken had 16 points. Martin came away with 10, Agee had six, Hendrixson three, and Lyons had two.

On Friday, January 28, the Lady Tigers were on the road to far away Livingston where they would face the Lady Wildcats. It would turn out to be another close game.

The Lady Tigers would open up the game with 16 points in the first period. Van Vranken scored off of a couple of two-pointers and a three-point basket, while Agee added a two and three-point shot of her own. Ferrell and Martin each had a two-pointer. Livingston came away with 22 points and the early lead.

Ferrell sank a couple of two-pointers and two free throws for the Lady Tigers in the second period, while Van Vranken and Ally Fuller each had a two-point shot of their own. Lyons added a free throw point. Livingston came away with 12 points, maintaining a 34-27 lead at the half.

Van Vranken was on fire in the third, hitting a three-pointer and a couple of two-point shots for DeKalb. Agee had a pair of three-pointer, while Ferrell added a two-point basket. Dare Collins got on the board with a free throw point. The Lady Wildcats were held to 14, but still held the 48-43 lead.

It came to the fourth and DeKalb put 12 points on the board. Ferrell had three two-point baskets and a free throw, while Agee had a three-pointer and two free throw points. Livingston jumped out with 20 points and the 68-55 win.

Ferrell was the top scorer for the Lady Tigers with 17 points, while Van Vranken and Agee each had 16. Martin and Fuller each had two points, while Lyons and Collins each had one.
