DeKalb County co-ed softball recently began its pre-season with the teams competing in a tournament to prepare for the upcoming season.
On Tuesday the team of Cleveland Bain got a big victory over the Howling Red team 21-5.
In the top of the first, Red couldn’t manage any runs while Bain drove in four.
In the second inning, Red answered back with three runs, but couldn’t stop Bain from scoring three of their own.
In the third inning, Bain continued their assault on their opponents as they brought in four more runs while allowing only two. The team of Cleveland Bain exploded in the fourth inning not allowing any runs to score and belting out 10 runs to their tally.
Howling Red wouldn’t score another run and the game was over in five innings with a Bain 21-5 victory.
After the loss to Cleveland Bain’s team, the Howling Red jumped right back into action against the Liberty State Bank team. Liberty State Bank would cash in on a 21-6 win over Howling Red.
The Liberty team got out to an early 2-0 lead in the first inning. Howling Red, however, came back in the second to score two of their own to tie the game at the end of the second inning.
In the third inning, Liberty hauled in six runs while holding their opponent to just one hit in the inning. Liberty kept its momentum as it poured on five more runs in the fourth inning, holding Red to two runs.
In the fifth inning, it was evident that Liberty had found its groove as it trounced Red for eight runs in the fifth.
The game would be called in the middle of the fifth as the lead of Liberty was too insurmountable at 21-6.
The last game of the night was the Webb House versus the Daystar Carpenters. The closely contested game went down to the wire when, in the last inning of play, Daystar Carpenter had a walk-off RBI, winning the game 16-15.
The Webb House jumped out to an early 10-2 lead through two innings. In the third inning, the Webb House went scoreless and allowed Daystar Carpenters to bat in four runs.
In the fourth, each team drove in three runs. The Webb House drove in two more runs in the top of the fifth inning, giving them a 15-10 lead going into the bottom of the fifth.
The Daystar Carpenters pulled out all the stops and did everything right to drive in six runs for a walk-off win over the Webb House.
Tournament play continued on Thursday night starting with the team of Napa taking on the team of Jimmy’s Lawn Care.
Napa would blow out Jimmy’s Lawn Care 15-5.
Lawn Care would explode early with 12 runs in the first inning and only allow Napa to score one run.
In the second inning, Napa managed two runs yet Lawn Care still drove in three more runs to add to their total. In the top of the third, Napa again brought in two more runs but the damage was already done and the lead was too much for Napa to rebound and the run rule was applied, giving Lawn Care the win.
The next game to take place was the team of Cleveland Bain versus the Liberty Sate Bank team. Liberty won the game in extra innings 8-6.
Team Bain took the lead in the first, driving in three runs to Liberty’s one run. The team of Bain remained in the lead until the third inning when they scored one run in the top of the inning but allowed Liberty to haul in three runs to even the score at four.
Both teams would be scoreless through the game until, in extra innings in the top of the seventh, team Bain scored three runs.
Now, down three runs, it was Liberty’s last chance to end the game, needing three runs to keep their hopes alive. Liberty State Bank came to life in the bottom of the seventh, scoring four runs to win the game in walk-off fashion.
Next up, the Webb House would take on Good Health Family Clinic in the final game of the night. The Webb House would walk away with the 13-11 win in a close game.
In the first inning, Webb drove in two runs but was topped by team Good Health which drove in four runs. Team Good Health extended their lead in the second inning, holding Webb at zero for the inning and driving in two runs.
In the third inning, each team would only manage one run. Both teams would again match the others run total in the fourth inning as they both brought in three runs with team Good Health holding on to a 10-6 lead.
In the fifth inning, the team of Webb House exposed the defense of team Good Health and ripped off four runs while only allowing one run.
With the lead in sight, the Webb House kept their hot streak and went for three more runs in the top of the sixth,taking their first lead of the game.
Team Good Health had one last chance at victory, needing two runs for the win, but the defense for the Webb House would have none of it as they were shut down and the Webb House would end the game with a comeback victory.
