Cookeville grand slam seals victory
Tigerettes prepare for tourney Friday night
Tigerette seniors
Seniors Madison Whitehead, Joni Robinson, Maddison Parsley and Braya Murphy played their last regular season game as Tigerettes Monday night. They now eye a deep run in the state playoffs.

The DeKalb County Tigerettes bid farewell to four of its own this past week during senior night recognition following their last regular season game which happened to be an 11-3 loss to Cookeville.

Although it was the last home game, the Tigerette players are hoping the season will go for a time longer, namely through the district, regional, section and state playoffs.

Recognized for their years on the softball squad were seniors Maddison Parsley, Braya Murphy, Joni Robinson and Madison Whitehead. They were each presented displays with their jerseys and other memorabilia of their time as Tigerettes.

Tigerette family
Senior members of the Tigerettes pause for a picture with their families following their game against Cookeville.

The walk down memory lane comes as the Tigerettes get ready to play host in the opening round of the district tournament. They will need to win at least one game in order to advance into the regional playoffs and do the same there to make the sub-state. They fell to Sweetwater in the sections last season, one game short of making the state finals.

They embark on the championship quest after being handed their hats by Cookeville. The fifth inning was the pivotible point of the game as Cookeville boomed a grand slam home run over the fence with two outs. What had been a 6-3 tight one became a Cavalier runaway despite the teams being similar from the dish with Cookeville outhitting their hosts eight two five. However, glaring from the scoreboard were six fielding errors by the Tigerettes, something Coach Danny Fish says the squad will have to clean up if they expect to make a deep run in the tournament.

For the Tigerettes, Emme Colwell led the way, going two-for-two with a home run. She was the only Tigerette with multiple hits against the Cavaliers.

Prior to the blowout this week, the Tigerettes and Cavaliers had split one run games in their earlier two meetings.
