The DeKalb County Middle School cross country team had a strong showing at the McCallie Invitational this past week with the girls taking second overall while the boys finished fourth.
Their result came from a field of 12 teams that entered the Chattanooga competition. Individually, Aaron Gottlied won the title in the boys’ varsity race conquering the two mile course with a time of 11:32.
"Two sub six minute miles back to
back is an extremely challenging thing to do, said cross country coach Kristen
VanVranken. “There are only a handful of middle school runners in the state
that are doing this right now. It was a
much deserving and an exciting win for him.”
Running strong behind Gottlied and rounding up the boys varsity were Cooper Brown who finished 20th at 12:55, Caleb Gray 21st at 13:01, Kaleb Spears 23rd at 13:06, Cameron Miller 43td at 13:46, Andrew Tramel 51st at 14:17, and Cale Brown 60th at 14:34.
