The old saying “it aint over til its over” was reinforced at Dekalb West field on Wednesday night. Trailing for the entire game, and down 7-1 when they came to bat in
the sixth, the Bulldawgs erupted for 11 runs against a very surprised Stone Memorial
team.
Stone Memorial enjoyed the best of it throughout the early stages of the contest with a balanced effort. They scored twice in the second, third and fifth innings to go with a lone score in the fourth. Dekalb could manage only a single score in the second. This set the stage for the sixth.
After Grayson Hendrix held the visitors scoreless in the top of the inning, Dekalb went to work. It actually came as a result of the Bulldawgs doing just enough to get to the right part of the pitching rotation. After that, it was a combination of patience at the plate and getting hits when hits were needed that fueled the attack.
When the dust settled, the result was an 11-run inning to give Dekalb a 12-7 victory. Luke Jenkins, Avery South and Jordan Young stroked two hits apiece. Levi Driver also singled. Aidan Curtis and Avery South pitched along with Hendrix.
Avery South turned in a strong pitching performance for the DeKalb Bulldawgs baseball team as they went up against Livingston Academy Middle School at West field on Thursday evening. He struck out six Livingston batters and allowed only one unearned run to lead Dekalb to a 6-1 victory. The win puts the Bulldawgs at seven wins against five losses for the season.
DeKalb opened the scoring with one of their patented “big” innings in the top of the third, highlighted by a bases-loaded double by Jacob Johnson. Isaac Knowles, Matt Sweeney and South also had hits in the inning. They scored a total of five runs in the inning.
Livingston plated their lone run in the bottom of the fourth with South blanking them in the fifth for the complete game victory
