The DeKalb County Tigers racked up two more wins last week with a two-game match up with the Cannon County Lions.
On Monday, April 15, the Tigers traveled to Woodbury where they defeated the Lions 3-1. The Lions took the early lead with one run in the first inning, but DeKalb bounced back with two runs in the fourth and one in the sixth.
Hunter Graham and Devin Summers each came away with one hit while Stephen Howell, Evan Curtis, John Roller, Stephen Page, and Cody Puckett each recorded two. Puckett also recorded a home run during the game.
DeKalb’s pitcher, Summers, pitched seven innings, giving up one run on four hits. He also recorded five strike outs with two walks.
On Tuesday, April 16, the Lions traveled to Smithville for a rematch, but the Tigers shut out Cannon County with a 8-0 win. DeKalb struck early with five runs in the first inning, and adding three runs to their total in the fourth.
Stephen Howell, Evan Curtis, Cody Puckett, Seth Stanley, John Roller, and Devin Summers each came away with two hits while Aaron Patterson recorded one. Puckett also recorded another home run in the game.
Puckett, DeKalb’s pitcher for six innings, struck out 10 with one walk. In the last inning Stephen Page gave up one hit and struck out two.
On Monday, the Tigers hosted York Institute, soundly defeating the Dragons with a 12-1 score in only five innings.
York took the early lead at the beginning of the first inning, but as the Tigers came to bat, they captured the lead with a homer by Cody Puckett and never looked back. DeKalb scored two runs in the first inning, six in the second, including another home run by Puckett, and four in the fourth.
DeKalb’s pitcher, Steven Page, gave up one run on four hits in five innings. He struck out nine and walked one.
Stephen Howell recorded three hits in the game while Cody Puckett and Seth Stanley each had two. Evan Curtis, Hunter Graham, Steven Page, Devin Summers, Joey Moon, and Aaron Patterson each had one hit.
