









The DeKalb County High School basketball teams had a good start to their season, after they went on the road to defeat the White House teams.
The Lady Tigers would start off their game with the lead and would never look back. DeKalb scored 14 points in the first period, with Lady Tiger standout Kadee Ferrell coming out strong. She scored eight points with a two-pointer, a three-pointer, and three free throw points. Ella VanVranken had a pair of two-pointers in the game, while Avery Agee added a couple of free throw points. Whitehouse was held to 10 points.
Ferrell was on fire again in the second period, coming away with a pair of three-point baskets, a pair of two-pointers, and a free throw. Natalie Snipes had a three-pointer of her own, while Madison Martin added a two-pointer. Again, White House was held to 10, giving DeKalb the 30-20 lead at the half.
Again, Ferrell piled on the points in the third period, coming away with four two-point baskets and a couple of free throw points. VanVranken added a two-pointer and a free throw. White House added 16 points, but the Lady Tigers still held a 43-36 lead.
The Lady Tigers put 17 points on the scoreboard in the fourth period. Ferrell had a two-pointer and three free throw points, while Snipes had a three-point shot. Martin had a two-pointer and a free throw, while Cam Branin had a couple two-point baskets. Xharia Lyons also had a two-point shot. White House put up 18 points, but the Lady Tigers took their first win of the season, 60-54.
The Tigers would also come away with a big win, taking a hefty lead in the first period that White House would overcome at the half. DeKalb scored 19 points in the first period, with Brayden Antoniak getting three two-point shots, while Stetson Agee and Zach Birmingham each had a three-point basket. Conner Close had a two-pointer and three free throw points. White House was held to only four points.
DeKalb added 11 points in the second period, with Jordan Young sinking a three-pointer and three free throws, while Close had another two-point basket and a free throw. Isaac Knowles and Alex Antoniak each had a free throw point. White House upped their game, scoring 27 points and taking a one-point lead, 31-30, at halftime.
The game stayed tight in the third period, with DeKalb scoring 20 points. Close had four two-point shots, while Agee added three of his own. Young had a three-pointer and a free throw, while Brayden Antoniak had a two-point shot. White House stayed right with the Tigers, scoring 22 and taking the 53-50 lead.
It all came down to the fourth quarter and the Tigers were tearing up the court. The boys scored 24 points, with Close coming away with five two-point baskets and three free throw points, while Elishah Ramos had a two-pointer and three free throws. Agee put up a two-pointer of his own, while Brayden Antoniak and Knowles each had a pair of free throw points. White House was held to just eight points, giving the Tigers the 74-61 victory.
On Saturday, the teams were back in action, this time on the road to face Gordonsville. Both teams would again have great games.
In the Lady Tigers game, DeKalb outscored the Tigerettes 20-8 in the first period. Avery Agee was unstoppable as she sank a pair of two-pointers and a couple of three-point baskets, while Ella VanVranken hit a couple of two-point shots of her own. Natalie Snipes had a three-pointer and Madison Martin had a two-point basket and a free throw.
The Lady Tigers kept things rolling in the second period with 16 points. VanVranken had a three-point shot, a two-pointer, and a free throw, while Martin had a two-point and three-point basket. Xharia Lyons had a two-pointer, Agee added a couple of free throws, and Kadee Ferrell had a free throw point. Gordonsville also came away with 16 points, but DeKalb held a 36-24 halftime lead.
Ferrell got hot in the third period, scoring four two-point shots and a free throw, while VanVranken added a two-pointer and a couple of free throw points. Martin also had a two-point basket. The Tigerettes were held to just five points, giving the Lady Tigers a 51-29 lead.
DeKalb sealed up the game with 13 points added to the board. Snipes sank a pair of three-point shots, while Dare Collins added a two-pointer. Lyons came away with three free throw points, while Ally Fuller had two. Gordonsville was held to just three points, giving the Lady Tigers their second win of the season, 64-32.
For the Tigers, DeKalb took a 14-8 lead over Gordonsville after the first period. Brayden Antoniak had a pair of two-point shots and a couple of free throw points, while Conner Close sank two two-pointer himself. Stetson Agee and Elishah Ramos also each had a two-point basket.
Close and Jordan Young each had a two and three-pointer in the second period, while Agee and Alex Antoniak each had a two-point basket. Ramos added a free throw. Gordonsville got into the game scoring 13, but DeKalb held a 29-21 halftime lead.
DeKalb kept the pressure on in the third, scoring 15 more points. Robert Wheeler came away with three two-point shots and a free throw, while Brayden Antoniak had two two-pointers and a couple of free throws. Ramos also added a pair of free throw points. The Gordonsville Tigers were held to just eight points, giving DeKalb the 44-29 lead.
Close came on strong in the fourth, getting three two-pointers and three free throws, while Ramos, Zach Birmingham, and Wheeler each had a two-point basket. Gordonsville opened up with 22 points, but it wasn’t enough. The DeKalb Tigers took the 59-51 victory.
