White County took two on Tuesday last week, as the DCHS Tigers and Lady Tigers traveled to Sparta and, despite every effort, lost both games.
Lady Warriors 65
Lady Tigers 44
The first quarter was a tough one for the Lady Tigers as White County doubled its output, scoring 22 points to the 11 made by DeKalb, making it a catch-up game from the start.
The Lady Tigers kept within a couple points of the Lady Warriors the second and third quarters, but couldn’t close the gap. White County put it away in the fourth by scoring 18 to DeKalb’s 12.
DeKalb’s D had a tough time keeping Lady Warrior Hannah Leftwich out of the paint and Gracie Dodgen hurt them from outside the arc as the two scored 22 and 16 points respectively.
Emma Colwell was the top scorer for the Lady Tigers with 12 points and she shot a perfect 4-for-4 from the line. DeKalb as a team, however, struggled with free throws, making 5-of-11 as a team. White County made 10-of-14.
Mallori Hart and Mya Ruch were good for 10 points each in the contest.
Rounding out the total tally for the Lady Tigers were Joni Robinson with 5 points, Maddison Parsley 3 and Kenzie France and Megan Walker both scored 2 points.
Warriors 67
Tigers 56
Down by 14 points in the fourth quarter, the Tigers went to work with Marshall Evins taking the outside shot and Trey Jones working the paint, or the charity stripe, as he earned more points there off the heavy handed defense by White County. Jones earned 10 of his 24 game-high points from the line and the Tigers outscored the Warriors in the fourth quarter but it wasn't enough to send the game into OT.
Overall, the Tigers hit 14-of-17 from the line for a respectable 82 percent. While White County had more opportunities, they didn’t maximize their chances, only hitting 12-of-21 or 57 percent.
White County managed to spread the ball around a little more against DeKalb and two players broke double digits with David Kinser and Dyson Reece being the main threat to the Tigers as they scored 21 and 18 points respectively.
Adding to the Tigers' tally were Evins with 9 points, Michael Elswick and Tanner Poss both were good for 8, Nathan Adkins had 4 and Colter Norris hit for 3 points in the contest.
The DCHS teams played host to Warren County last night. Results were not available at press time.
