The DeKalb County High School ladies soccer team hosted its annual playday Saturday, with five teams each playing a half in a tournament-style arrangement.
DeKalb faced Cannon County at 9:30 a.m., defeating the team from Woodbury 2-0.
Haleigh Bass put two in the net for DeKalb, and Robin Pafford had an assist.
The ladies then faced Macon County at 11:40. The game ended in a 1-1 tie, with Bass scoring DeKalb’s lone goal and goalie Meghan Brandt recording four saves.
Squaring off against Upperman at 12:20, defeating the Lady Bees 4-0.
Bass scored three goals for DeKalb, while Jhoany Gaspar scored one. Sophie Hackett and Taylor spare added an assist each.
DeKalb met White County at 2:20 in the afternoon, giving the team from Sparta a 2-0 beating.
Brandt recorded two saves, and Morgan Odom and Bass put in two goals in the game.
DeKalb came out of the playday in second place after Macon defeated them 5-1 in the finals. Hackett scored the goal for DeKalb in the game. White County took third place.
The DCHS ladies soccer team for 2016 consists of seniors Nichole Walker , Morgan Odom, Taylor Spare, and Haleigh Bass.
Jhoany Gaspar is the lone junior on the team, while Anna Rachel Blair, Destiny Solano, Abbey Parchman, Sophie Hackett, Robin Pafford, Faith Judkins and Sarah Starnes round out the sophomores.
Freshmen on the team include Chloe Braswell, Mercedes Bogle, Sarette Aranda, Harper Wallace, Taylor Foutch, Meghan Brandt, and Brooke Gannon.
Team managers are Dylan Easterwood, Jackub Osment, Hunter Robinson, Aaron Garza, Cristobal Flores, Regan Foutch, and Skylar Pease. The coaching staff consists of Head Coach Dylan Kleparek and assistants Rhonda Merriman and Jim Porter.
The team opened the season on Aug. 16 hosting Warren County, then will play six road games and the Franklin County Tournament before returning home to play.
They will travel to Community High School on Aug. 19, playing at 6 p.m., then to play Smith County on Aug. 25, at 5 p.m. They will visit Livingston Academy on Aug 30 at 6:30 p.m., then will go to Jamestown to face York Institute at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 1.
The ladies from DeKalb will play at Macon County at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 6, and at Cannon on Sept. 8 at 7 p.m. before playing in the Franklin County Tournament Sept. 10-11.
The squad will finally return home to play White County on Sept. 15 at 5:30, the beginning of a five-game home stand that will include Upperman at 6:30 p.m. on Sept. 20, Central Magnet on Sept. 27 at 6:30, Cumberland County on Oct. 4 at 6:30, and will finish up the regular season hosting Watertown on Oct. 6 at 6:30 p.m.
Postseason play will begin Oct. 8 with the 4th vs 5th Play-in, and district tournaments will begin on Oct. 10, with the district championship will be played on Oct. 13. Regional Tourneys are set to begin Oct. 18.
