The DeKalb County High School Lady Tigers continued their season last week with one game at home, and another on the road. While the home game against Macon County proved to be an exciting nail-biter for the home crowd, the road in White County wasn’t so kind.
On Sept. 24 the Lady Tigers faced the Lady Tigers in what would become a cat fight against two evenly matched teams. Angeles Soto would get the first point of the game, coming away with a goal only eight minutes into the game.
Macon County would come back, however, with Lora Darnell getting a goal eighteen minutes later and tying the game.
DeKalb’s power kicker, Morgan Odom, would break the tie before the half with a penalty kick from mid-field. The kick was up and into the net, giving DeKalb a 2-1 lead at the half.
DeKalb seemed to be dominate on the field, keeping the ball and threatening Macon with good passing and ball control. There were several opportunities to go in and put the game away with goal attempts, but always falling just short.
Darnell would come away with another tying goal only five minutes into the second half, and that is where the score would stay. Despite threatening Macon’s goalie several times, the game would end in a 2-2 tie.
DeKalb’s Goalie Jessica Billings would have eight saves during the match.
On Thursday, the Lady Tigers traveled to White County to take on the Warriorettes.
White County would come on strong and take the first goal of the game with Frederique Demers getting a point ten minutes into play.
DeKalb’s Angeles Soto would tie the game with 25 minutes left in the first half, buy Demers would strike again only a minute later, giving the Warriorettes a lead they would not relinquish.
In the second half, White County’s Kaitlyn Heath would come away with a goal with 14 minutes left in the game. Demers would also come back and cap off the win with only five minutes left to play, ending the game 4-1.
Billings would have 15 saves during the game.
The Lady Tigers next home game will be against Middle Tennessee Christian at 7 p.m. on Oct 8.
The DCHS and DMS Soccer Programs will also be hosting an all-you-can-eat pancake breakfast on Oct. 12, at the DeKalb Community Center. The event will run from 7 a.m. until 11 a.m. and there will be door prizes awarded. For tickets call 615-597-5408 or 615-439-5568.
