Several players with the DeKalb County High School Tigers and Lady Tigers basketball teams were honored last week after being named to the All District Teams.
Three members of the Tigers earned All-District honors. Senior Ethan Roller was named to the All-District First Team. Roller scored his 1,000th point earlier in the season and is one of the top three-point shooters in the state.
Freshman Steven Jennings was named Freshman Player of the Year and made the Third Team All-District. Jennings was not only a big player on the court, he was also the Tigers’ QB on the football field where he received similar honors.
Junior Center Justin Bone received an honorable mention for his efforts on the court this season.
All-District honors are as follows:
• MVP - Wade Eldridge, Coach of The Year - Jimmy Miller, Most Improved - Zac Craig Freshman of the Year - Steven Jennings, Defensive Player of the Year - Wyatt Slagle
• First Team - Cory Henley of Cannon County, Colton Blevins of York Institute, Ethan Roller of DeKalb County, Tyler McWilliams of Upperman, and Wyatt Slagle of Upperman.
• Second Team - Evan Perrigo of Macon County, Cody Devillaneuva of Upperman, Zac Craig of Livingston Academy, John McBride of York Institute, and Jared Naveof Cannon County.
• Third Team - Josh Ruehlen, Cameron Huff, Steven Jennings, Tanner Larson, and Trent Nivens.
• All Defensive - Loren Crowder of Livingston Academy, Trace McPherson of Macon County, Cody Devillaneuva of Upperman, Colton Blevins of York Institute, and John McBride of York Institute.
• All Freshman - Wes Duffield of Central Magnet, Michael Ashburn of Macon County, Luke Williams of Smith County, Austyn McWilliams of Upperman, Tyler King of Cannon County, and Kendrick Carter of Macon County.
• Honorable Mention - Tommy Mitchell of Cannon County, Wes Duffield of Central Magnet, Justin Bone of DeKalb County, Peyton Clark of Macon County, Trace McPherson of Macon County, Dillon McCormick of Macon County, Kaleb Qualls of Livingston Academy, Jamal Carter of Smith County, Dylan Hedgecloth of Upperman, David Eldridge of Upperman, Ben Guffey of Upperman, and Jacob Day of York Institute.
The Lady Tigers’ Senior Paige Winningham and Junior Loren Cripps were voted to the All District 8AA Girls Third Team. Winningham had three double doubles this season, while Cripps is the newest member to the1,000-point club.
The All District Girls’ Team is as follows:
• MVP - Abbey Sissom of Cannon County, Coach of Year - Michael Dodgen of Cannon County, Freshman of Year - Gracie Maynard of Upperman, Most Improved - Erin McReynolds of Cannon County, and Defensive Player of Year - Callie Hackett of Smith County.
• First Team - Abbey Sissomof Cannon County, Callie Hackett of Smith County, Klaudia Hull of Uppperman, Marlee Sells of Livingston Academy, Madison Walkup of Cannon County, and Claudia Smith of Central Magnet.
• Second Team - Ola Obi of Central Magnet, Kaylee Winningham of Livingston Academy,
Briley Driver of Macon County, Bri Melton of Smith County, and Rebekah Faulkner of Cannon County
• Third Team - Rachel Reeder of Livingston Academy, Paige Winningham of DeKalb County, Loren Crips of DeKalb County, Erin McReynolds of Cannon County, and Allison Conder of Smith County.
• All Defensive - Callie Hackett of Smith County, Abbey Sissom of Cannon County, Erin McReynolds of Cannon County, Rachel Reeder of Livingston Academy, Klaudia Hull of Upperman, and Kendall Robbins of Livingston Academy.
• All Freshman - Gracie Maynard of Upperman, Mikala Brown of Livingston Academy, Abbi Gregory of Smith County, Page Clark of Macon County, Lexi Strickland of Upperman, and Shea Sparks of York Institute.
