La-Kota Luna hangs on to a bull at the Cookeville rodeo.

Over one hundred high school rodeo athletes from across the state met at the Hyder-Burks Ag Pavilion in Cookeville on Oct. 4-5 for the third and fourth Tennessee High School Rodeo Association (THSRA) rodeos of the 2014-2015 season. Our local high school rodeo team, consisting of La-Kota Luna and Shara Adcock, performed well and accumulated several points for the season.

Bull rider La-Kota Luna, won the bull riding event. He led the entire weekend with enough points to earn bonus money for highest score of the weekend and the most points earned for the weekend in that event.

Shara Adcock participated in all cowgirl events offered. On Saturday, she came away with a fifth place run in the break-away roping, second place in the goat tying competition, and a first place run in the team roping with her partner Ramsey Goolsby of Watertown. On Sunday, she earned third place in the goat tying event and placed in the top 10 in breakaway roping.

Luna and Adcock both participated in a community service project on Saturday afternoon, assisting children and adults with special needs to compete in a Structured Athletics for Challenged Children (SACC) rodeo. The event consisted of 46 entries from the Upper Cumberland area, and allowed the participants to ride a horse, rope a calf dummy, tie a goat dummy, and ride a mechanical bull with the help of our high school rodeo athletes.

Students from the THSRA and SACCs had a great time making new friends and wonderful memories.

The next competition of THSRA will be held October on 25-26 on the campus of Western Kentucky University in Bowling Green.
