The DCHS girls soccer team had a productive week, first defeating York Institute on Tuesday, then giving Sequatchie County a drumming on Thursday, leaving the Ladies undefeated on the season so far, including a first-place win on their pre-season Playday.

 

In the game against York on Aug. 25, DeKalb faced the Dragons in Smithville, and a fine performance, which included 17 saves by goalie Jessica Billings, put another win in the Lady Tigers column in a 3-1 game.

 

Anna Rachel Blair put one in the net for DeKalb in the eighth minute of play with an assist by Angeles Soto. Haleigh Bass scored the remaining two goals in the contest, one during the 21st minute, also with an assist by Soto, and another in the 23rd minute, again with a Soto assist.

 

Abigail Sondman contributed the only goal for the Jamestown team, a corner kick in the 67th minute, assisted by Sheridan Dishman.

 

In another home game on Aug. 27, the DeKalb ladies sent Sequatchie County in a 5-2 match.

 

Bass warmed the net with a goal in the 15th minute of the contest, getting an assist from Sophie Hackett to post the first score of the game. Bass struck again in the 22nd minute of play, dropping another goal in with a Soto assist.

 

Soto claimed a goal for the Tigers in the 30th minute of play, and Blair dropped one in the net in the 33rd minute with an assist from Robin Pafford. Hannah James added another goal to DeKalb’s tally in the 45th minute, getting an assist from Bass.

 

Billings contributed an impressive 14 saves from the goalie position to help clinch the win.

 

Though Alicia Nance scored on a penalty kick in the 66th minute for the Dragons, and assisted Jillian Mosely in a 74th minute goal, the York ladies were unable to recover, giving DeKalb their

 

The ladies will travel to compete in the Franklin County Tournament this weekend, playing on Saturday and Sunday, and will then come home to meet Aaron Academy at Vanhooser Stadium on Sept. 8.
