What started as a close catfight between the two Lady Tiger teams, turned into a commanding win for DeKalb as its offense kicked into gear after a tight 7-6 lead in the first quarter.
“I was excited to see us playing well tonight,” said DCHS Lady Tiger head coach Danny Fish. “They did good, especially defensively. Giving up only 13 points was pretty good with only two in the second half. I thought we started off a little sluggishly but we got in the grove and got settled. We played a lot of people tonight and I’m just excited about the overall team win.”
Using its dominant defense, that’s been working well for DeKalb all season, the Lady Tigers were able to distribute the basketball with impunity as 10 players scored points in the contest led by Emme Colwell and Joni Robinson, both with nine points apiece in the total tally.
DCHS was proficient on the outside game with 27 of its total points coming from outside the arc. Robinson led the long-distance scoring total with all nine points garnered from three-point shots.
Megan Cantrell, Lydia Brown and Colwell all hit for two three pointers each in the game.
Rounding out the Lady Tiger offense were Mallori Hart with 8 points, Cantrell and Brown and Gracie Griffin all hit for 5 points each, Mya Ruch and Lean Davis 4 points each and Hannah Willingham and Megan Walker both scored 2 points.
Leva Britt was the high scorer for Gordonsville with 6 points.

“Ugly” was how DeKalb head coach Linus Martin described the DCHS Tigers win Tuesday night against Gordonsville.
“We didn’t shoot the ball well and that was an ugly win, “said coach Martin. “There wasn’t anything good about tonight. Defensively we didn’t do great, we didn’t rebound or shoot well at all. We hit enough free throws at the right time something we haven’t done in the past couple of games. That was what got us over the hump but it was ugly … nobody played well.”
What came down to a win from the charity stripe against an aggressive Gordonsville defense kept DeKalb on top as the team made 9-of-11 free throws in the contest for 82 percent, six points of which came in the fourth quarter.
DeKalb’s Marshall Evins was the game-high scorer with 22 points in the game, just behind Gordonsville’s Joey Parliament who had 21.
Rounding out the DCHS Tigers score was Colter Norris with 9 points, Nathan Atkins and Tanner Poss both with 7, Austin Johnson had 4 points and Trey Jones was good for 2 points in the game.
