DCHS Teams Stung By Bees
Basketball tournament


The DeKalb County High School basketball teams were on the road this week, traveling to district rival Upperman. The teams would fight hard, but ultimately it would be Upperman's night.

 

In the girls' game, the Lady Tigers scored six points in the first quarter, with three-point shots by Kadee Ferrell and Ella VanVraken, but the Lady Bees would come away with 16 points, taking a big lead.

 

The Lady Tigers came to life in the second quarter, scoring 14 points. Ferrell had a pair of two-point baskets and a free throw, while VanVraken added a two-pointer and a free throw of her own. Grace Griffin sank a three-point shot, while Madison Martin had a two-pointer. Cadee Griffith also added a free throw point. Upperman scored 20 points however, giving them a 36-20 lead at halftime.

 

VanVraken had a three-pointer and a two-pointer in the third quarter, while Martin and Megan Cantrell each had three-point shot of their own. Ferrell added a free throw point. Upperman added 19 points to the board, increasing their lead, 55-32.

 

DeKalb could only muster eight points in the fourth quarter, with Xharia Lyons and Ferrell each getting a two-point basket, and Martin coming away with four free throw points. The Lady Bees padded their score with 20 more points, giving them a 75-40 win.

 

In the boys' game, the Tigers would keep the game within striking distance, but would not be able to pull ahead.

 

The Tigers scored 12 points in the first quarter, with Luke Jenkins sinking a pair of three-point baskets, while Elishah Ramos came away with a couple of two-pointers. Evan Jones also had a two-point shot. The Bees came away with 16 points, taking the early lead.

 

Ramos had a two-pointer and four free throw points for the Tigers in the second quarter, with Jones adding a pair of two-point baskets. Upperman was held to 12 points, but their lead increased to 28-22 at halftime.

 

DeKalb again put 10 points on the scoreboard in the third quarter, with Ramos and Jenkins each getting a couple of two-point shots, and Jones getting one. Again, Upperman scored 12 points, gradually increasing their lead, 40-32.

 

The Tigers scored 12 points in the fourth quarter, with Ramos scoring five free throw points, while Jones put up a pair of two-point baskets. Stetson Agee had a three-point shot and a free throw point. But the Bees ended the game with 17 points, giving them the 57-45 district win.

 

Both the Tigers and Lady Tigers are 3-3 on the season. The Tigers are 1-1 in district play, while the Lady Tigers are 0-2.
