Lucas Hale pitched for the win in the first game of the tourney for the 9-10 year olds.

Three local all-star teams traveled to Murfreesboro last weekend to compete in the Tennessee Youth Baseball Association (TYBA) state championships at Barfield-Crescent Park.

The 9-and-10-year-old-team fought their way to second place in the state, opening the tourney with a convincing 15-3 win over Fayetteville on Friday night. The team fell to eventual state champions the Manchester Raiders Saturday by a score of 9-3, but quickly recovered, defeating the Manchester Rangers later in the day 8-1.

They returned to the field on Sunday beating Unionville 9-8 and Buchanan 11-9. The squad faced the Raiders in the championship game, but were unable to avenge their earlier loss, falling 11-5 to the state champs.

The 5-and-6-year-old Sains All-Star team put in an impressive performance as well, finishing fifth in the state in their division.

After falling to Unionville in a 14-2 game to open the tournament, the team came back Saturday morning to take the Manchester Vipers down 16-7, but lost 18-2 to the Shelbyville Stars that afternoon.

Sunday morning action saw the squad earn a 15-5 win in a rematch against the Vipers and a 16-6 win when they faced the Stars again to cement their fifth-place position.

Information on the 11-and-12-year-old team was not available at press time.
