Cody Hattaway won the steer wrestling event both days.

The DeKalb County High School Rodeo team traveled to the University of Tennessee at Martin last week for the final competition of the year before state finals. The event took place at the Ned R. McWherter Ag Pavilion on May 3-4, where several local athletes performed well in multiple events.
Senior cowboy, Cody Hattaway, came on strong in the steer wrestling event, with a win on Saturday with a 4.81 second run, and again on Sunday. In the team roping, he placed sixth on Saturday, and came in fourth for Sunday's rodeo. He also performed well in calf roping on Sunday, winning third place.
Victor Roller, a DCHS senior, rode his bull for a full eight seconds on Sunday, scoring 60 points for second place in the event.
Shara Adcock, a junior, enjoyed success on both Saturday and Sunday. She won the breakaway roping on Sunday with an impressive 3.36 second run, and won again on Sunday with a time of 4.05, besting all cowgirls in that event. She also excelled in the goat tying competition, winning first in both rodeos. She improved her winning time by more than one full second on Sunday, with a 9.34 second run.
The Tennessee High School Rodeo State Finals Rodeo will be held at the Shelby Showplace Arena on June 12 - 14. Rodeo officials will calculate points for the state standings and announce the winners in each event when competition is complete.
The top four competitors in each event will proceed to national competition in Rock Springs, Wyoming in July. DCHS has had several national competitors in previous years, dating all the way back from the 1980s to 2013.
