DeKalb gets gobbled up for Thanksgiving
Megan Cantrell
Megan Cantrell, shown in earlier action against Warren County, had three points in the Lady Tiger loss to White County over Thanksgiving.

There wasn’t a lot to give thanks for on the hardwood for the DeKalb High School basketball teams as the Tigers and Lady Tigers both took it on the chin during their holiday matchups.

The Tigers were throttled by the White County Warriors this past Tuesday, 73-39. The Warriors went up early, 13 to 10 after one and then poured it on in the second quarter, taking a massive 39-16 lead into the locker room. Things didn’t get much better in the second half as White County held a 28-point advantage entering the final frame. The fourth saw White on cruise control as they finished off the Tigers.

Evan Jones led at Tigers with 11 on the night. Elishah Ramos and Dallas Cook each contributed 6, Luke Jenkins had 5, Michael Elswickgot  4. Stetson Agee contributed 3. Ian Jones had 2 and Alan Munoz and Zach Birmingham each chipped in 1.

Things were no better for the Lady Tigers as they were rolled by the perennial powerhouse, 62-32. Still missing some of their key players due to injury, the Lady Tigers could only muster five points in the first quarter, spotting the Lady Warriors an early eight-point lead after one. The Lady Tigers were still not able to crack double digits in scoring the second as they put up just seven, getting doubled 24-12 by the Lady Warriors at the half. Another seven-point quarter in the third put the game out of reach as the Lady Tigers trailed 45-19 after three. They were finally about to muster a double digit quarter in the fourth but it was too late.

Madison Martin led DeKalb with nine. Summer Crook and Mya Ruch both had five. Gracie Griffin, Megan Cantrell, and Megan Walker, all had three and Kenzie France and Emme Colwell both had a deuce.

The DeKalb County squads both took on the chin against Red Boiling Springs on Friday. The boys lost 59-35 while the girls lost 47-33.  On the boys side Michael Elswick scored 10. Dakota White had  seven, Evan Jones had six, Zachary Birmingham and Luke Jenkins each had three, and Dallas Cook, Ean Jones, and Elishah Ramos, all with two. On the girls side Emme Colwell scored 11, Megan Cantrell had six, Mya Ruch and Summer Crook each had four, Megan Walker and Kenzie France each had three and Gracie Griffin had two.
