Two Macon County tigers try to bring Drew Castorena down.

The DCHS Tiger football team traveled to Macon County to face their Tigers Friday night, and came out on the wrong end of a 41-20 beating.

Macon got on the board quickly with a 66-yard Michael Tirjan touchdown run on the second play of the game, and a good EP kick from Joseph Medrano put the Macon Tigers up 7-0 with 10:53 on the clock in the first quarter.

A little more than six minutes later DeKalb Quarterback Tyler Cantrell hit Matthew Poss with a 30-yard touchdown pass. Poss put up a good EP, and the score was tied 7-7 with 5:01 left in the first.

Macon County went back up by a touchdown when Quarterback Seth Carlisle kept the ball for a 66-yard run with 3:23 left in the first. Medrano contributed another EP, and the blue Tigers were ahead 14-7.

A turnover on downs gave the ball back to Macon County, and Carlisle wasted no time in taking advantage of the situation with a 37-yard touchdown pass to Taylor McQuery with 2:28 left in the first. Another Medrano EP gave Macon a 21-7 advantage.

The Macon quarterback kept the ball for a 10-yard touchdown run with 9:13 on the clock in the second period. Yet another Medrano EP put Macon County ahead 28-7.

Not going down without a fight, DeKalb stayed in the game with an 85-yard touchdown blast from Cantrell to Riley Sexton. Poss hit another EP, bringing the score to 28-14 Macon.

Macon County came back at DeKalb with a 66-yard drive culminating in a short touchdown on another keeper from Carlisle in the final seconds of the first half. Another good Medrano EP put Macon ahead 35-14.

Macon’s substituted Branson Henry at quarterback in the second half, and the two tiger teams battled back and forth without scoring during the third quarter.

Henry finally hit Tanner Cleary with a touchdown pass with 10:16 left in the fourth. A failed extra point left Macon with a 14-14 lead.

DeKalb scratched their way into the end zone again with 5:12 on the clock in the final period. Cantrell connected with Bradley Miller for an eight-yard touchdown, but a failed attempt at the uprights by Poss brought the final score to 41-20 Macon County.

DeKalb County will return home to Vanhooser Stadium to celebrate homecoming this week.

Homecoming activities will wrap up with the parade, which should hit downtown just after 1 p.m. Friday, and the homecoming game against the Sequatchie County Indians at 7 p.m.

The Tigers will travel to Grundy County on Oct. 7, will play at home against the Upperman Bees on Oct. 21, and will visit Cannon County on Oct. 28 to wrap up the regular season.
