The DeKalb County High School Tigerettes Softball Team opened their season last week, playing two double headers and getting some big wins.
On Mar. 10, the team was at home where they played their first regular season games with a double header against Jackson County. If the games are an indicator of the rest of the season, the Tigerettes are going to have a very good year.
The Tigerettes came away with nine runs in the first inning alone, holding Jackson scoreless. The second inning was even better, with DeKalb getting 14 more runs, and allowing Jackson to get on the board with one. The game would end in the third, with the Tigerettes again holding Jackson to zero runs. DeKalb took an impressive opening win, 23-1.
DCHS had a total of 12 hits in the game, while Jackson had one. The Tigerettes had zero errors, while JCHS had four. The winning pitcher was Lauren Colwell.
Tyra Graham and Chelsea Brannon each had a home run in the game.
In the second game of the day, the Tigerettes picked up where they left off.
DeKalb scored two in the first inning, one in the second, four in the third, and five in the fourth. The defense also held Jackson County scoreless throughout the game. DCHS came away with their second win, 12-0.
The Tigerettes had nine hits with 12 runs during the game, while Jackson recorded one hit and zero runs. DCHS had zero errors, while JCHS had four. Kayley Caplinger was the winning pitcher.
On Mar. 13, the team faced off in another double header, on the road against White County.
In the first game, the score would remain 0-0 through the first inning, but the Tigerettes would come to life in the second. DCHS scored four points, then score another eight in the third, all while keeping White County off the board. The game would end after five innings, with DeKalb taking another win, 12-0.
The Tigerettes had 13 hits with 12 runs, while White recorded five hits and zero runs. DCHS went errorless, while WCHS had one. Lauren Colwell was the winning pitcher with six strike outs.
The second game was almost a copy of the first. The first inning remained scoreless, and the Tigerettes opened up in the second. The team scored seven points, and another eight in the third inning, all while keeping White County away from the plate. DeKalb came away with their fourth win, 15-0.
DeKalb had 15 hits with 15 runs and zero errors, while White had zero hits, zero runs, and zero errors. DeKalb’s Kayley Caplinger was the winning pitcher with four strike outs. Loren Cripps had a home run in the game.
