After taking a week off over the Thanksgiving holiday, DeKalb West teams were back on the court and claiming some victories.
On Monday, November 28, DWS was on its home court as they faced visiting Tuckers Crossroads. It would be a good night for the home teams on Eighth-Grade Night.
In the Lady Bulldogs game, DWS would jump out with 16 points in the first period. Hannah Brown sank a pair of two-pointers and a three-point basket, while Sophie Desimone hit a three and two-point shot. Camille Barton also had a two-pointer. Tuckers was held to just five points.
DWS came away with nine more points in the second period, with Brown sinking a couple of two-pointers, Kenedee Prichard with a two-point basket, and Autumn Crook with a two-pointer and a free throw. Again, Tuckers was held to five, giving DeKalb a 25-10 halftime lead.
The Lady Bulldogs scored six in the third period, with a couple of two-point baskets by Barton, and a two-pointer by Crook. Tuckers was held to just two points, giving DWS a 31-12 lead.
Barton hit a two-pointer for the Lady Bulldogs in the fourth while Emily Fry came away with a free-throw point. Tuckers was again held to three giving DWS the 34-15 victory.
The boys game would be much closer. The Bulldogs scored five points in the first period, with a three-pointer by Ben Driver and a two-pointer by Ben Barton. Tuckers Crossroad was held to just three points, all off of free throws.
The Bulldogs scored eight in the second, with a couple of two-point baskets by Porter Hancock and one by Drew Crook. Chase Young had two free throw points. Tuckers was held to a single point, giving DWS a 13-4 halftime lead.
DWS scored another eight in the third period, with two two-pointers by Young, and one each by Ethan Brown and Hancock. Tuckers scored another four, giving DWS a 21-8 lead.
Hancock came away with three two-point shots for the Bulldogs in the fourth, while Driver had two and Barton had one. Tuckers came to life late, scoring 19. It was not enough. DWS took the 33-27 win.
The following Thursday, DWS would be on the road, this time traveling to Wilson County. Both teams would have another successful night.
The Lady Bulldogs scored 12 points in the first period, with Hannah Brown hitting a pair of two-point shots, Sophie Desimone a three-pointer, Kenedee Prichard and Autumn Crook each with a two-point basket and Camille Barton with a free throw. Wilson was held to a single point.
DWS was held scoreless in the second period, but held Wilson to just a two-point shot. The Lady Bulldogs held a 12-3 lead at the half.
Desimone sank a two-pointer and a free throw for the Lady Bulldogs in the third, while Kayley Womack sank a two-pointer and Barton a free throw. Wilson scored another three, but DeKalb was up 18-6.
Crook hit three two-pointers for the Lady Bulldogs in the fourth, while Brown had a two-pointer and a free throw. Wilson managed another two points giving DWS the 27-8 victory.
Again, the boys game would be closer with the Bulldogs scoring 10 points in the first period. Chase Young had a pair of two-point baskets, while Porter Hancock had a two-pointer and a couple of free throws. Ben Barton also had a two-point shot. Wilson took the lead with 11 points.
The Bulldogs came away with 11 points in the second. Young hit three two-point shots, while Barton and Drew Crook each had a two-pointer of their own. Hancock added a free throw point. Wilson was held to five points giving DWS a 21-16 halftime lead.
Barton, Young and Hancock each had a two-pointer for DWS in the third, while Wilson came away with seven points. The Bulldogs still held a 27-23 lead.
The Bulldogs would end the game with 10 points in the fourth. Young had a couple of two-pointers, Ben Driver a two-point shot and a free throw, and Barton added a two-pointer himself. Hancock also had a free throw point. Wilson was held to seven, giving DWS the 37-30 win
