DeKalb West wraps up

The DeKalb West School Bulldogs and Lady Bulldogs wrapped up their basketball season last week with three final games. The Bulldogs would go 2-1 in their final three while the girls would go 1-2.

On Monday, January 9, the teams were on their home court where they would take on teams from Forks River.

In the Lady Bulldogs game, the girls would come out with a big lead, but would let it slip away as the game wore on.

DWS scored nine points in the first period, with Autumn Crook hitting a pair of two-pointers, while Sophie Desimone had a three-point shot. Camille Barton also had a two-point basket. Forks River was shut out of the first period.

The Lady Bulldogs scored four in the second period, with two-point shots by Barton and Crook. Forks River put nine on the board, but DWS held the 13-9 halftime lead.

Desimone hit a two and three-point basket for the Lady Bulldogs in the third period, while Emily Fry added a free throw point. Forks River came away with 10 points, tying the game at 19.

The Lady Bulldogs put eight points on the board in the fourth, with Crook sinking a pair of two-point baskets and a free throw, while Desimone had a two-pointer and one free throw point. Forks River would score 11 and take the 30-27 win.

In the Bulldogs’ game, DWS scored three points in the first period, with a two-pointer by Chase Young and a free throw by Porter Hancock. Forks River put six on the board.

In the second period, the Bulldogs came to life with 11 points. Young hit on a pair of three-point shots, a two-pointer and a free throw, while Ben Barton added a two-point shot. Forks River was held to three points, giving DWS the 14-9 lead at halftime.

DeKalb put five on the board in the third, with two-pointers by Ben Driver and Hancock, and a free throw by Young. Forks River also had five, with the Bulldogs holding on to a 19-14 lead.

Young had a three-pointer and a couple of free throws for the Bulldogs in the fourth period, while Hancock had a three-pointer of his own. Unfortunately Forks River added 15 to the board, taking the 29-27 win.

The following Thursday, the teams were on the road, this time at Tuckers Crossroads. It would be a better night for the DWS teams.

In the Lady Bulldogs’ game, Desimone had a three-point basket in the first period, while Crook put up three two-point shots. Tuckers was held to five points.

DWS added another nine points in the second period, with Hannah Brown hitting a pair of three-pointers, while Barton had a two-point shot. Desimone had a free throw point. Tuckers was held to just two-points, giving the Lady Bulldogs the 18-7 lead at the half.

Desimone put eight points on the scoreboard for the Lady Bulldogs in the third, while Brown added a pair of two-point baskets. Crook also had a two-point shot. Tuckers was again held to just two points. DWS was up, 30-9.

The Lady Bulldogs would end the game with nine more points while holding Tuckers to just one. Desimone had a pair of two-pointers and a free throw, while Crook had a couple of two-point baskets of her own. DWS claimed the 39-10 victory.

The boys would also have a good game. The Bulldogs had seven points in the first period, with Barton hitting a pair of two-point shots, while Hancock had a two-pointer and a free throw. Tuckers took the early lead with 10 points.

The Bulldogs added 13 to the board in the second period, with Young sinking a couple of two-point shots and a three-pointer, while Barton and Ben Driver each had a two-point shot. Drew Cook had a pair of free throw points. Tuckers was held to just two points, giving the Bulldogs a 20-12 halftime lead.

DWS scored 12 in the third period, with Hancock hitting three two-point baskets, while Barton and Driver each had one. Cook put up another two free throws. Tuckers was held to four giving DWS the 32-16 lead.

Cook and Hancock each had a two-point basket for the Bulldogs in the fourth, while Tuckers was held to just three- DWS claimed the 36-19 win.

The following Saturday the teams would face off with Jim Satterfield Middle School in Lebanon.  It would be a close game for the girls.

The Lady Bulldogs scored 10 points in the first period with Barton hitting a two and three-point basket, while Desimone had a two-point of her own. Zoey Skeen had a pair of free throw points, while Hannah Brown had one. JSMS scored 14 points.

Barton and Crook each had a two-pointer for the Lady Bulldogs in the second period, while Brown had another two free throw points. JSMS added to their lead with eight. They were up 22-16 at the half.

The Lady Bulldogs put six more points on the board in the third, with Barton sinking a three-pointer and Crook adding a two-pointer and a free throw. JSMS was held to three points, with DWS narrowing the lead, 25-22.

It was a battle in the fourth with DWS scoring nine more points. Desimone had a two and three-point shot and a pair of free throws, while Crook added a two-pointer. JSMS also scored nine and claimed the narrow 34-31 win.

In the Bulldogs’ game, DWS would dominate. DeKalb scored 10 points in the first period, with a three-pointer by Young and two-pointers by Barton, Ethan Brown, and Hancock. Drew Cook also had a free throw. JSMS had six points.

DWS continued in the second, with 12 points. Hancock and Barton each had a pair of two-pointers, while Young had a three-pointer. Driver added a free throw point. JSMS was again held to six. The Bulldogs were up 22-12 at the half.

The Bulldogs did even better in the third, with 14 points. Driver and Hancock each had a couple of two-point shots, while Young had a three-pointer. Brown also added a two-point basket. JSMS was held to five, giving DeKalb the 36-17 lead.

DWS would end the game with four points, with Handcock sinking a two-pointer while Young had a couple of free throws. JSMS was once again held to five, giving the Bulldogs the 40-22 victory.
