DeKalb Youth Baseball Back in Action

by Chris Tramel

The boys of summer were back on the field this week as DeKalb Youth Baseball resumed from its Covid-19 hiatus. While team members and spectators were happy to see some semblance of sports back in action, social distancing and precautions were still in affect. Many fans lined the fence row around the field, keeping groups six feet apart.

On July 2, the First Bank team took on Davis Auto Body in a game that saw Davis Auto run away early. Davis Auto started out the first inning with two in field home runs by Carson Davis and Elliot Barns, while Preston Taylor, Drew Cook, Logan Gard, Isaih Tramel, and Rylan Vinson all got on base, and made it to home plate.

First Bank didn't get into the game until the third inning when Eli Jones and Wade Evans got the team on the board. They would add another run at the top of the fourth inning when Porter Hancock touched home plate, but Davis Auto sealed the game up with runs by Justin Waggoner and another by Carson Davis.

With the games being limited by time as precautions over Covid-19, the game then timed out. Davis Auto took the win, 9-3.

Elliot Barnes was the winning pitcher with four strikeouts and zero walks. Edward Crook took over in the third inning with one strikeout and two walks, then Carson Davis finished out the game with two strikeouts and no walks.

Porter Hancock was the losing pitcher, with zero strikeouts, and four walks. Grayson Cantrell had five strikeouts and three walks. Anderson Fortner finished out the pitching in the fourth inning.

In the next game, Insta Cash took on a team from Taylor Construction, and the game remained tight until the final innings.

The first points in the game came in the second inning when Kollin Young, Zane Starkey, and Lance Martin each got on base and managed to touch home base for Insta Cash, but Taylor Construction also got on the board with a run Anthony Moore.

Taylor Construction tied things up in the third inning when Keegan Taylor and Preston Cantrell each came in with a run. They would then pull ahead in the fourth inning with a run by Bryson Redmon, then seal the win in the fifth inning with another score by Anthony Moore. Taylor took the 5-3 win.

Hayden Quarles was the winning pitcher with five strikeouts and three walks. Anthony Moore took over in the third inning with nine strike and one walk.

Kollin Young was the pitcher for Insta Cash with four strikeouts and one walk. Collin Donnell took over in the third with five strikes and two walks.

In the Machine Pitch league, DTC had a big with over Liberty State Bank. Skylar Herriett scored LSB's only run of the game, while DTC's Braxton Knowles and Evan Sims each had one run, Hayes Keart and Desmond Cade each had two runs, Jackson Dunaway and Zane Griffith each had three runs, and Cameron Pursell had four runs. DTC took the win, 16-1.

Outreach Baptist Church took on Brady Printing in a close game, but Brady Printing came out on top. Cooper Stanfield and Carden Nelson each had one run for OBC, while Dalton George had two. Brantley Starkey and Zailan Martinez each had one run for BP, while Ayden Buchanon and Sam Tobbit each had two.

Brady Printing took the win, 6-4.
