Evan Prichard throws some heat for the Rangers.

DeKalb Youth Baseball was back in action last week, with some close games played. Heavy rain and lightning cancelled Thursday night games, but teams were on the diamond the rest of the week.

 

In Major League action, on Tuesday, July 7, the Ranger Brakes Rangers faced off against First Bank.

 

Brad Hale scored a run in the first inning for the Rangers, but Logan Duke countered, scoring a run for First Bank.

 

In the second inning Reed Midgett and Nick Daw each scored giving the Rangers a 3-1 lead, while First Bank was held scoreless.

 

The Rangers really turned up the heat in the third inning, with Nick Murphy, Cooper Odom, Austin Vickers, Midgett, Daw, Eli Redmon, and Kalab Hale each coming in with a run and giving the team a 10-1 lead.

 

But First Bank was about to lay down, and the team came to life in the third. Jon Hendrix, Jamison Troncoso, Cooper Goodwin, Bryson Arnold, Rickey Bullard, and Alex Vaughn each touched home plate. The comeback came a little too late however and the Rangers took the win, 10-7.  

 

Pitching stats were unavailable.

 

On Friday, July 10, the Rangers were back in action, this time against a tough Rice's Tigers team.

 

The Rangers went three and out in the first inning, while the Tigers came out to a huge start. Preston Taylor, Silas Kirksey, Tucker Webb, Luke Johnson, Aiden Taylor, JR Coronado, and Anthony Moore each came in with runs.

 

Austin Vickers got the Rangers on the board in the second inning, but the Tigers poured on the heat with Preston Taylor, Kirksey, Webb, and Coronado each scoring again.

 

The Tigers would seal up the game in the third inning, holding the Rangers scoreless, while Preston Taylor, Webb, Aiden Taylor, and Talon McCrory each touched home plate. The Tigers would take the 15-1 win.

 

Silas Kirksey was the winning pitcher, while Evan Prichard pitched the first inning for the Rangers, Bradley Hale the second, and Nick Murphy was in during the third.

 

That same evening First Bank took on Rice's Tigers in a game that was decided late.

 

First Bank was held scoreless in the first inning, while the Tigers opened up with a four point lead. Preston Taylor, Silas Kirksey, Tucker Webb, and Aiden Taylor each came in with a run.

 

First Bank got into the game in the second inning with four runs of their own. Jon Hendrix, Cooper Goodwin, Robbie Knox, and Alex Vaughn each touched home, tying the score. The Tigers were held scoreless in the second, keeping the game 4-4.

 

With time running out, First Bank went three and out in the third inning, while the Tigers went ahead big on the scoreboard. P. Taylor, Kirksey, Coronado, Anthony Moore, and Kiece Hannah each came in with a run, sealing the 9-4 win.

 

Tucker Webb was the winning pitcher, pitching until the second, relieved by Aiden Taylor, then Silas Kirksey. Jon Hendrix pitched for First Bank, relieved by Bryson Arnold in the third.

 

In Senior League action, on July 7, Wilson Bank and Trust (WBT) took on Southern Landscape Supply (SLS).

 

WBT scored in the first inning with Axel Aranda coming in with a run, but SLS stayed with them, with Jackson Arnold scoring.

 

Neither team got any traction in the second inning, but WBT began to pull away in the third. Ian Colwell, Jacob Hendrix, and Carson Vincent each had a run in the third inning, while Westin Wright scored for SLS.

 

Colwell, Hendrix, Vincent, Aranda and Brayden Carter scored for WBT in the fourth inning, while SLS was held scoreless.

 

Aranda and Carter scored yet again in the fifth inning, sealing the 11-2 win.

 

Brayden Carter was the winning pitcher with four strikeouts, and seven walks, while Westin Wright threw for SLS with five strikeouts and four walks.

 

That same evening, Love Cantrell Funeral Home took on SLS.

 

Love Cantrell started out strong, with a 5-0 lead in the first inning. Ty Webb, Garrison Randolph, Cam Caballero, Wesley Kent, and Alex Lemons each touched home base, while SLS was held three and out.

 

SLS finally got onto the scoreboard in the fourth inning, with Carson Donnell, Westin Wright, and Jackson Arnold each getting a run, but that would be their last chance.

 

Love Cantrell sealed the game in the fifth inning with a run by Kent, taking the 6-3 win.

 

Wesley Kent was the winning pitcher, with nine strikeouts. Carson Donnell pitched for SLS, with six strikeouts, and ten walks.

 

On July 10, SLS and Love Cantrell would be in a rematch, this time with a different outcome.

 

SLS started the game with a lead they would never let go, with Hunter Cantrell, Carson Donnell, and Luke Midgett each getting a run. Love Cantrell kept things close, with Garrison Randolph and Ty Webb each coming home.

 

The second inning saw SLS extend their lead, with Cantrell, Donnell, Jackson Arnold, Carson Vincent, and Jacob Hendrix touching home plate, while Love Cantrell was held three and out.

 

Donnell and Vincent would score again for SLS in the third inning, while Wesley Kent added to the Love Cantrell tally. That would be the last gasp for Love Cantrell.

 

SLS sealed up the victory in the fourth inning with Cantrell, Cesar Gaspar, and Jackson Mathis each getting a run. SLS would take the 13-3 win.

 

Jackson Arnold was the winning pitcher with seven strikeouts, and four walks. Wesley Kent pitched for Love Cantrell, with four strikes and four walks. Gann Cooper took over in the third, with one strike and three walks.

 

That same evening, WBT faced off with Love Cantrell in another tough game for Love Cantrell.

 

The game started slow for both teams, with the first scores coming in the third inning. Axel Aranda, Brayden Carter, Ian Colwell, Carson Vincent, and Carson Donnell each had runs for WBT, while Wesley Kent, Ty Webb, and Alex Lemons put Love Cantrell on the board.

 

In the fourth inning WBT piled on the runs, with Aranda, Carter, Colwell, Jacob Hendrix, John Hendrix, and Donnell touching home plate. WBT would seal the 11-3 win.

 

Jacob Hendrix was the winning pitcher, striking out two and walking three. Ian Colwell came in relief in the third, with two strikeouts and five walks. Brayden Carter finished the game.

 

Garrison Randolph was the pitcher for Love Cantrell, with four strikes and three walks.
