The DeKalb County High School Tigers Baseball team got one game in before the Easter holiday last week, but would fall behind early and not be able to recover.
On Saturday, April 3, the Tigers were on the road, taking on a tough Blackwood team.
Blackwood would get on the board in the first inning, with a single line drive to right field that drove home two runners. Then, a runner scored off of an error by shortstop Konnor Young.
Blackwood would add three more at the bottom of the second inning. One runner scored on fielder's choice play, then, with bases loaded, another runner walked in to put Blackwood up 5-0.
The Tigers finally got into the game at the top of the third. Kolter Kilgore hit a ground ball and reached on an error by the shortstop, as Aiden Curtis scored. Then, Isaac Knowles singled on a ground ball to left field, as Dexton Emberton touched home plate.
Next up, Jacob Johnson singled on a line drive to left field, driving Nathaniel Dace home, then, Avery South grounded into a double play to shortstop, as Kilgore scored. DeKalb had pulled to within one, at 5-4.
Sadly, the Tigers would not keep the momentum going. Blackwood added one more at the bottom of the third, taking a 6-4 lead. That is where the score would stay.
Aidan Curtis took the loss for the Tigers, allowing one hit and five runs over one and one-third innings, striking out three.
Knowles, Jordan Crook, and Johnson each collected one hit to lead DeKalb at bats.
