The DeKalb Middle School basketball teams were in action last week, hosting Defeated at home, with a scheduled game with Monterey cancelled.
In the girls’ game, the Lady Saints scored 11 points in the first period, with Jordyn Agee hitting a pair of three-point baskets, Maggie Hendrixson with one, and Jerusalem Aldino with a two-pointer. Defeated was held to nine points.
DMS came away with 15 points in the second period. Agee sank another pair of three-point shots, while Sophie Adcock had a two and three-point basket. Hendrixson added another three-pointer as well. Defeated was held to six points, giving the Lady Saints a 26-15 halftime lead.
Lola Colwell scored on a two-pointer and a free throw for the Lady Saints in the third, while Adcock, Hendrixson, and Hannah Tobitt each had a two-pointer. Defeated was held to four points with DMS going up 35-19.
Regan Williams scored on a two-pointer and a free throw for the Lady Saints in the fourth. Defeated added five points, giving DeKalb the 38-24 victory.
In the boys’ game it would be much the same. Hartley Hannah sank a three-pointer for the Saints in the first period, while Anthony Moore had a free throw point. Defeated also scored four.
The Saints added 11 points in the second period. Carter Melson hit a pair of two-point shots, while Hannah added another three-pointer. J.T. Summers and Moore each had a two-pointer. Defeated was held to five, giving DeKalb the 15-11 lead at the half.
DMS scored seven in the third. Elliott Barnes got on the board with a pair of two-point baskets, while Hannah had a two-point shot. Summers added a free throw. Defeated scored five. The Saints were up, 22-16.
The Saints ended the game with six more points, with Moore and Preston Taylor each with a two-pointer, and Cooper Odom with a pair of free throws. Defeated was held scoreless, giving DeKalb the 28-16 win.
