DMS Faces Tough Gladeville Teams

The DeKalb Middle School basketball teams managed to get at least one night of games on the books last week, while their Thursday games had to be cancelled due to snow.

On Tuesday, January 4, the Saints and Lady Saints traveled to Gladeville, where they faced some tough competition.

In the Lady Saints game, DMS scored just two points in the first period, with a two-point basket by Brooklyn Fuson. Gladeville came out big, scoring 17 points.

Chloe Van Vranken scored the only points for the Lady Saints in the second period, sinking a two-point shot. Gladeville added another 14 to the board, taking a 31-4 lead at the half.

It was Van Vranken for the Lady Saints again in the third period, getting a two-point shot. Gladeville kept rolling, scoring another nine and increasing their lead 40-6.

The Lady Saints only managed four more points in the game, with a pair of two-pointers by Van Vranken. Gladeville was held to just two in the fourth, but claimed the 42-10 win.

The Saints would do only slightly better as they took the court. DMS scored four points in the first period, with a two-pointer by Devin Fish, and free throws by Jamison Troncoso and Wyatt Carter. Gladeville came away with 16 points.

Fish upped his game in the second period, with a three-pointer and a free throw, while Jon Hendrix sank a two-pointer and a free throw. Troncoso also had a two-pointer of his own. Gladeville increased their lead with 10 points, taking a 26-13 halftime lead.

Kiece Hannah hit a two-point shot and a free throw for the Saints in the second period, while Fish added another two-pointer. Gladeville powered through with 18 more points, taking a 44-18 lead.

The Saints scored 12 points in the fourth, with Fish sinking a two-pointer and a free throw, while Hendrix also added a two-point shot. Troncoso, Bradley Hale, and Turner Bryant each added two free throw points, while Aiden Turner had one. Gladeville ended the game with 14 points, and the 58-30 win.
