The DeKalb Middle School Saints and Lady Saints were back on the court last week, traveling to Cannon County. It would be a rough night for both teams.
In the girls’ game, Cannon jumped out to a big lead early and never looked back. Brooke Fuson scored the only points for the Lady Saints in the first period, a two-point basket, while Cannon came away with 12.
Maggie Hendrixson would sink a two-pointer and a free throw for DMS in the second period, while Jordyn Agee would also have a free throw point. Cannon extended their lead with eight points and a 20-6 lead at the half.
Lillie Young scored four points on free throws for the Lady Saints in the third, but it would be the only points DMS would see. Cannon piled on 16 more points, taking a 36-10 lead.
Agee had two free throw points for DeKalb in the fourth, while Young added one. Cannon sealed their victory with seven points and a 43-13 win.
The game would be a little closer for the boys. Ryan Lyons and Tucker Webb each had a three-point shot for the Saints in the first period, while Kiece Hannah sank a pair of two-point baskets. Cannon came away with the lead with 15 points.
Lyons added a two-point shot in the second, while Hannah added another pair of two-pointers. The Lions had 10 points and claimed the 25-16 halftime lead.
The Saints added six points to the board in the third, with Lyons and Luke Johnson each with a two-pointer, and J.T. Summers with a pair of free throws. Cannon stayed ahead with eight points and a 33-22 lead.
The Saints opened up in the fourth, scoring 15 points. Elliott Barnes had a three-point shot and a couple of free throws, while Hannah added a pair of two-pointers. Aiden Quarrels had a three-point basket, Johnson a two-pointer, and Anthony Moored sank a free throw. Cannon kept up their game with 17 points, taking the 50-37 win.
