The DeKalb Middle School basketball teams had a short week last week, playing only one night before the Thanksgiving holiday. The teams traveled to Sparta, where they would face some stiff competition from White County.
On Monday, November 21, the Lady Saints opened up the night with their game against the Lady Warriors. DeKalb would take the lead early in the game, but White County would prove too much for the girls.
Jordyn Agee came away with a three-point basket and a two-pointer for the Lady Saints in the first period, while Maggie Hendrixson added a two-pointer. The Lady Warriors were held to just six points, giving DMS the lead.
Unfortunately, the Lady Saints would be held scoreless in the second period, while White County came to life with 23 points. At the half, the Lady Warriors were up, 29-7.
Things didn’t get much better for the Lady Saints in the third period. Their one lone point would be scored off of a free throw by Agee. White County would tack on 17 more points and take a 44-8 lead.
Hendrixson would come away with a two-pointer and a pair of free throws for the Lady Saints in the fourth period, while Kaylee Kent added a free-throw point of her own. The Lady Warriors would add 10 more points to their tally and take the 54-13 win.
It wouldn’t be much better for the boys as they took to the court. Kiece Hannah would sink a two-pointer for the Saints in the first period, but that would be the only points they would see. White County jumped out with 21 points on the board.
Hannah had another two-point basket in the second period, while Elliott Barnes added a free-throw point. The Warriors added 13 points to the board and took a 34-5 halftime lead.
DMS showed a little more life in the third period, with Hannah hitting a two-pointer and a pair of free throws, while Barnes sank a three-point basket. Luke Johnson also added a two-pointer to the board. White County added another 13 points, taking a 47-14 lead.
The Saints scored only three more points in the game, a three-point shot by Kingston Mills. White County would seal the game with eight points, taking the 55-17 win.
