The Lady Saints got DeKalb Middle Schools first ever soccer victory last week against Fentress County.

The DeKalb Middle School Soccer Program got its first ever win last week as the Lady Saints took a hard-fought victory. The win shows the hard work by the team and its coaches is beginning to pay off.
On Sept. 10, the Lady Saints were at home as they faced Fentress County. Around five minutes into the game Lady Saints’ Sophie Hackett was awarded a penalty kick, and was able to find the goal.
Fentress would come back 15 minutes later, scoring a goal of their own and tying the game, 1-1 as the half ended.
The second half went back and forth, but with about 20 minutes left in the game Sarah Starnes scored for DeKalb on a through ball from Jhoany Gaspar. The goal would be the last score of the game, giving the Lady Saints’ their first victory as a team, 2-1.
Goalkeeper Mary Maple recorded seven saves on the day, with the team taking a total of 11 shots on goal.
The following Thursday the team would again be on their home field, this time taking on Overton County.
Ten minutes into the first half Sarah Starnes would get a goal for the Lady Saints, with the assist from Anissa Hall. The lead would be short-lived however, with Overton coming back to score two goals before half time.
Five minutes into the second half, Starnes would score again with an assist by Jhoany Gaspar on a through ball. This would tie the game up, 2-2, but Overton would not go away.
As the game wore on, Overton would score five more goals, with the final being 7-2.
DMS had a total of nine shots on the day, and goalkeeper Mary Maple had a total of 14 saves.
