The DeKalb Middle School Saints went into the Christmas break on a winning note, after falling to a visiting team.
On Dec. 20, the Saints battled a team from Tullahoma West. The game would be a struggle for DMS.
The Saints scored five points in the first period, with Tanner Poss getting a three-point basket, and Logan Cornelius getting a two-pointer. Tullahoma scored seven points, taking a narrow lead.
Colter Norris scored the only three points for the Saints in the second period, with a two-pointer and a free throw. Tullahoma came away with eight points, and a 15-8 lead at the half.
DMS scored four points in the third period, with a two-pointer by Brayden Hart and two free throw points by Norris. Tullahoma scored another eight points, increasing their lead, 23-12.
Cornelius and Andrew Fuson each had a two-pointer in the fourth period, while Norris added two free throws. DMS score six, but Tullahoma score three and took the 26-18 victory.
Norris was five for six on free throws, while Poss was zero for four. Michael Elswick was zero for two.
On Dec. 22, the Saints were back on the court, this time taking on the Owls of Smith County. The Saints would come away with a big win.
The Saints opened up with nine points in the first period. Poss scored a pair of two-point baskets, while Hart and Elswick each had one. The Owls counters, also scoring nine points.
DMS really came to life in the second period, with 27 points added to the scoreboard. Poss scored nine two-pointers and a free throw, while Cornelius came away with three two-point shots. Elswick had one two-pointer. The Owls were held to four points, giving DeKalb a 36-13 halftime lead.
The Saints scored 10 points in the third period, with Fuson and Elswick each getting a two-point shot, while Norris got a three-pointer. Eli Cantrell got two free throw points, while Noah Gill got one. Smith County was held to only one point. DeKalb took a 46-14 lead.
DeKalb scored five in the fourth period, with Elswick and Cantrell each getting a two-point basket, and Will Pursell getting a free throw. The Owls scored 12, but it was not enough. DMS took the win, 51-26.
Poss was two for four on free throws, while Cantrell was two for two. Pursell and Gill were one for two, while Luke Jenkins and Elswick were each zero for two.
