Dragons roast DeKalb

The DCHS Tiger and Lady Tiger basketball teams both fell to the York Institute Dragons Tuesday night in Smithville.

 

The Lady Tigers lost a 50-47 heartbreaker in yet another neck-and-neck contest. The Lady Dragons led the first period 15-9, but DeKalb fought back to a 25-25 tie at the halftime buzzer. The third period of the game saw both teams score 13 points, for a 38-38 stalemate going in to the final period of play. The team from Fentress County edged the Lady Tigers by three points, however, and DeKalb County took the loss.

 

Hannah Panter scored 16 points, hitting three three-point shots and leading the DeKalb offense. Emme Colwell put 10 points in, and Lydia Brown dropped eight in. Macy Hedge scored seven for the Lady Tigers, and Joni Robinson scored six points.

 

The Dragons pounded the Tigers in a 53-37 game.

 

York outpaced DeKalb 12-2 in the first period, and while the Tigers led an 11-9 second period, the Dragons held a 21-13 lead at the half. DeKalb fell farther behind in an 18-6 third period, and the score at the beginning of the fourth stood at 39-19, York Institute. DeKalb scored 18 points in the fourth, and allowed York 14, ending the game with a 16-point deficit.

 

Trey Jones led the Tiger scorecard with eight points. Tanner Poss followed with seven, while Gentry Harpole, Austin Johnson, and Colter Norris scored six each. Isaac Walker and Michael Elswick added two points each.

 

The Trousdale County boys’ team will come to Smithville Thursday night for a make-up game on Jan. 26 at 5:30 p.m., the Tigers will then travel to Woodbury on Jan. 27 to face border rival Cannon County.
