The DeKalb West School basketball teams were back on the court last week, traveling to Forks River for some tough competition.
On Monday, November 29, in the Lady Bulldogs’ game, the girls fell behind early and would not be able to bounce back. DeKalb scored four points in the first period, with two-pointers by McKenna Miller and Sophie Desimone, but Forks River came away with 14 points.
DWS was only able to add four more to the board in the second period, with another two-point basket by Desimone, and a couple of free throws by Jordyn Agee. Forks River put 11 more points on the scoreboard, taking a 25-8 halftime lead.
Once again, the Lady Bulldogs only score four points in the third, with Abby Jo Crook sinking a two-point shot and Agee again getting a pair of free throws. Forks River poured it on and padded their lead with 16 points.
Agee sank a pair of two-pointers for the Lady Bulldogs in the third period, while Abby Jo And Autumn Crook each had a two-point shot of their own. Forks River would be held to only five points, but it was plenty for the 46-20 win.
The boys would not do any better. The Bulldogs scored six points in the first period, with Cameron Stanley getting a couple of two-pointers, while Chase Young had one. Forks River came out strong with 16 points and the early lead.
Young and Presley Merriman scored the only points for the Bulldogs in the second period, with each sinking a two-point basket. Forks River continued to pull away with six points, and the 22-10 lead at the half.
The Bulldogs scored six points in the third period, with Young getting a pair of two-pointers, while Conner Talley added one of his own. Forks River padded their lead with 14 more points.
DWS only managed two points in the final period, with a two-point shot by Ben Driver. Forks River also scored two, but claimed the 38-18 victory.
