The DeKalb West School was back in action on Jan. 5, after the Christmas break, at home taking on teams from Carroll Oakland. The Lady Bulldogs would start the night off, coming away with a big win.

The first period belonged to Lydia Brown, who scored five two-point baskets, while Addison Oakley added one point from a free throw. DeKalb scored 11, while holding Carroll Oakland to a big goose egg.

Brown had three more two-pointers in the second period, accounting for all of the Lady Bulldogs’ six points. Carroll Oakland got on the board with six points of their own, but DWS held a 17-6 lead at halftime.

The Lady Bulldogs scored 10 points in the third period, with Brown getting three more two-point shots, while Oakley got two. Carroll Oakland outscored DeKalb, getting 11 points, but DWS held a 27-17 lead.

DWS came away with nine points in the fourth period, with Brown continuing her hot streak with three more two-point baskets, while Oakley took three points from free throws. Carroll Oakland was held to six points, giving DWS a 36-23 victory.

Oakley was four for six on free throws, while Brown was zero for two.

The Bulldogs would not be as fortunate as their female counterparts. The boys’ battle would be much tougher against Carroll Oakland.

DeKalb scored eight points in the first period, all from Grayson Redmon. He scored two three-point baskets and a two-pointer. Carroll Oakland took the early lead, scoring 12 points.

The Bulldogs only scored three points in the second period, with Redmon, Dallas Cook, and Dillon Sullivan each getting a free throw point. Carroll Oakland pulled away, scoring 14 points and taking a 26-11 lead at the half.

DWS was held to one point in the third period, with a free throw point by Cook. Carroll Oakland came away with seven points and a 33-12 lead.

The Bulldogs only scored three points in the fourth period, with a three-point basket by Noah Roberts. Carroll Oakland sealed their victory with four more points, and the 37-15 win.
