The DeKalb West School basketball teams were on the court last week, hosting Jim Satterfield Middle School, before taking on Forks River later in the week as DWS celebrated 8th Grade Night.

On December 11, the hometown crowd gathered as DWS faced off against Satterfield Middle. It would be a close game for the girls, while the boys would come out strong.

In the Lady Bulldogs game, DWS scored three points in the first period off of a three-pointer by Sophie Desimone. Satterfield jumped out with 14 points.

Camille Barton hit on a pair of two-pointers and a three-pointer for the Lady Bulldogs in the second, while Desimone added another two-point shot. JSMS was held to eight points, but they held a 22-21 lead at halftime.

DWS scored 10 in the third, with Desimone hitting a two-point shot and a couple of free throws, Barton and Kaylee Womack with a two-pointer each, and Autumn Crook and Zoey Skeen each with a free throw. Satterfield scored 11, going up, 33-22.

The Lady Bulldogs ended the game with nine more points. Barton had three two-pointers, while Crook sank a three-point shot. Satterfield closed with four points, taking the 37-31 win.

In the boys’ game, the Bulldogs only scored two in the first period, a two-point basket by Porter Hancock. Satterfield came away with four points.

The Bulldogs finally got rolling in the second period, scoring 15 more points. Levi Cripps had a pair of two-point shots and five free throws, while Hancock had three two-point baskets. Satterfield was held to four points again, giving DWS the 17-8 halftime lead.

Cripps sank a three-pointer for the Bulldogs in the third, while Drew Cook, Hancock, and Maddux Pyburn each had a two-pointer. JSMS scored 11, but DWS was up, 26-19.

The Bulldogs added 13 more points in the fourth. Hancock hit three two-point shots and a free throw, while Carson Davis had four free throw points. Cripps also had a two-pointer. Satterfield was held to five, giving DWS the 39-24 victory.

The following Thursday, the teams were at home hosting Forks River for 8th Grade Night. It would be a good night for the girls while the boys fell short.

The Lady Bulldogs jumped out with 13 points in the first period. Barton had a two-pointer and three free throws, Crook had a pair of two-pointers and a couple of free throws, and Desimone hit a two-point shot. Forks River was held scoreless.

DWS added another 17 to the board in the second. Desimone made a pair of three-point shots and a two-pointer, Barton a couple of two-point baskets and a free throw, and Crook a two-point basket and a couple of free throws. Forks River got on the board with six points. The Lady Bulldogs held a 30-6 lead at halftime.

Womack and Kylie Pierce each had a two-point basket for the Lady Bulldogs in the third. Forks River was held to just two. DWS was up 34-8.

The Lady Bulldogs ended the game with 10 more point. Barton and Katelyn Fry each had a pair of two-pointers, while Crook had one. Forks River scored three more, giving DWS the 44-11 win.

In the boys’ game, the Bulldogs would only score five in the first period, off of a two and three-point basket by Cripps. Forks River put 14 on the board.

The Bulldogs scored eight in the second, on a couple of two-point shots by Cook and a three-pointer and a free throw by Cripps. Forks River added nine. Forks River held a 23-13 lead.

DWS put seven on the scoreboard in the third. Cook had a two-pointer, Hancock three free throw points, and Landon Holmes a couple of free throws. Forks River added 12, taking the 35-20 lead.

The Bulldogs ended the game with 10 more points. Cripps had three two-point shots, while Cook and Hancock each had one. Forks River ended the game with 18 points and the 53-30 wi
