The DeKalb West School basketball teams were at home last week, where they played Woodbury in their last set of games before taking off for the Christmas holidays. The girls had a tough time finding the goal, while the boys powered their way through another win.
On Dec. 19, the Lady Bulldogs opened up the match, and kept the game close against the Woodbury Cubs. DWS scored five points in the first period, four of which came from two two-point shots by Lydia Brown. Woodbury took eight points and the early lead.
The Lady Bulldogs continued to fall behind in the second period, scoring only off of a two-pointer by Addison Oakley. Woodbury didn’t do much better, getting four points, but taking a 12-7 lead into the half.
In the third period, Oakley and Brown each had a two-point shot. Unfortunately, that was the only points in the quarter for the Lady Bulldogs. Woodbury opened up their game, scoring 15 points, and increasing their lead, 27-11.
The Lady Bulldogs were held to only four points in the fourth period. Savannah Belcher and Shelby Clayborn each had a two-pointer. Woodbury sealed their victory, taking eight points and a 35-15 win.
Oakley went one for six on free throws in the game.
The Bulldogs took the court next and right away showed they are a force to be reckoned with. DWS scored six points in the first period, four from a pair of two-pointers by Damien Dishman, and two more with a two-pointer by Ethan Martin. DeKalb held Woodbury to only two points in the period.
DWS added to their lead in the second period, scoring 11 points. Dishman was on fire, getting four two-pointer, while Elijah Foutch had one. The Bulldogs held the Cubs to only four points, taking a 17-6 lead into the half.
Woodbury actually matched the Bulldogs’ scoring in the third quarter, each team coming away with 10 points. Dishman and Jacob Frazier each had two two-pointers, while Brady Driver had one. DWS kept the lead, 27-16.
DeKalb breezed through to a victory in the fourth period, scoring eight points while holding the Cubs to only two. Again it was Dishman, scoring four points off of a pair of two-pointers, while Driver had one. The Bulldogs took the win, 35-18.
Driver was two for two on free throws, while Jessie Smith was zero for two. Garrett Driver went one for two, and Dishman was zero for one.
