DWS Teams Battle on the Road

The DeKalb West School basketball teams were on the road last week, playing some close games against some good teams.

 

On Monday, December 12, the teams traveled to Hartsville where the faced off against Satterfield Middle School.

 

In the Lady Bulldogs' game, the girls fell behind early. Camille Barton hit a couple of two-point baskets in the first period, but Satterfield came away with seven points.

 

Hannah Brown sank a three-pointer for the Lady Bulldogs in the second period, while Barton, Autumn Crook, and Emily Fry each had a two-point shot. Satterfield scored 11, taking the 18-13 lead at halftime.

 

Crook sank a two-point basket and a free throw in the third period, while Brown and Barton each had a two-pointer. Satterfield added 16 to the board and took the 34-20 lead.

 

Fry had a two-pointer for the Lady Bulldogs in the fourth while Crook added a pair of free throws. That would be all they would see. Satterfield added six to the scoreboard, and claimed the 40-24 win.

 

The Bulldogs match would be much closer. DWS scored nine points in the first period, with Chase Young hitting a pair of two-point shots and a three-pointer, while Ben Barton added a two-point shot. Satterfield put 11 on the board.

 

DWS put eight points on the board in the second, with Barton, Ben Driver, and Porter Hancock each sinking a two-point basket, while Ethan Brown and Young each had a free throw point. Satterfield also scored eight points giving them a thin 19-17 halftime lead.

 

The Bulldogs came out and were held scoreless in the third period, while Satterfield added seven. They were up 26-17.

 

DWS finally got back on track in the fourth period. Young had a three-pointer, Hancock a pair of two-pointer shots, and Brown, Driver, and Drew Cook each had a two-point basket. Satterfield added nine, and claimed the 35-30 win.

 

The following Thursday the teams were again on the road, this time visiting Forks River.

 

In the Lady Bulldogs game, it would be close and go back and forth. Sophie Desimone hit a two and three-point shot for the Lady Bulldogs in the first period, while Camille Barton had a two-point shot. Forks River came away with 11 points.

 

Desimone and Kenedee Prichard each had a pair of two-point shots for the Lady Bulldogs in the second. while Autumn Crook added a two-point shot of her own. Forks River was held to only two-points, giving DWS the 17-13 halftime lead.

 

The Lady Bulldogs' Desimone, Prichard, and Barton each hit a two-point basket in the third period, while Forks River was held to four points. DWS was up 23-27.

 

DWS would only score four points in the fourth, with a two-pointer by Desimone, and free throws by Brown and Prichard. Forks River would come away with eight points, but the Lady Bulldogs held on for the 27-25 victory.

 

It would be a tight game for the Bulldogs as well. They would fall behind early but slowly claw their way back.

 

DWS scored seven points in the first period, with Ethan Brown, Chase Young, and Drew Cook each getting a two-pointer and Porter Hancock getting a free throw point. Forks River went ahead with 12 points.

 

Hancock hit a two-pointer and a free throw in the second period, while Young and Cook each had a two-point shot of their own. Fork River added 11 points and took the 23-14 lead at the half.

 

Ben Driver and Young each had a couple of two-point baskets for the Bulldogs in the third period, while Forks River were held to six points. Forks River held on to a 29-22 lead.

 

The Bulldogs scored another eight points in the fourth, with Young adding a couple of two-point shots while Brown and Driver each had one. Forks River came away with four points, taking the 33-30 win.
