Fair to kick off with 5K
Events include wrestling, racing and pulling

The DeKalb County Fair will kick off on Saturday, July 16 with the annual DeKalb County Fair 5K and Fun Run.

 

The race will start at 6:30 p.m., and will be run this year as a fund raiser for Run Down to bring awareness to Down syndrome. Registration begins at 6 p.m. at the Fairgrounds. Pre-registration is available by contacting Matt Boss at 615-464-8627. The entry fee is $15/youth $20/adult

 

Pre-registration guarantees a DeKalb County Fair 5K T-Shirt. The entry fee is $20 for youth and $25 for adults. Parking will be available behind Fair Office.

 

Jordan Wilkins of Smithville has won the DeKalb County Fair 5K and Fun Run the last two years, running the course in 24:15 last year. Carly Vance of Smithville took second place in the race at 26:41 and Kelly Pyburn of Alexandria came in third place at 27:01.

 

Conner Vance won the fun run last year with a time of 5:34, while Jordon Agee came in second at 9:20.

 

Then, on Monday, July 18, The Bullwhip Rodeo will come to the T.C. McMillen Arena at 7:30 p.m., with a Cattle Show at the grandstand at 6 p.m. For more information on the Bullwhip Rodeo, contact James at 931-397-1380.

 

USA Championship Wrestling will grace the T.C. McMillen Arena 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, featuring Heavyweight Champion Chris Michaels, a midget match between Little Fabio and Little Kevin, and also featuring Jacob Law, Kevin Zion and Desperado. Fans will have a chance to meet the wrestlers and get autographs. A Corn Hole Tournament will be held at the grandstand on Tuesday at 8:15 p.m.

 

Go Cart Racing will light up the TC McMillen Arena at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, and a Kiddie Tractor Pull will begin at 6 p.m. at the grandstand.

 

Thursday 21: ATV/Motorcycle Racing will be held at the T.C. McMillen Arena at 6:30 p.m. For more info on Go-Cart Racing or 4-Wheeler/Motorcycle Racing contact Ken Vickers at 615-464-8675.

 

An ATV/Mini-Rod/Outlaw Pull will take place at T.C. McMillen Arena at 7 p.m. on Friday. The contest is open to all ATV’s, with a Stock Class, and a Modified Class.
