The DeKalb West School Lady Bulldogs’ basketball season came to an end last week, with two home games and the last game on the road. The final games would be a battle for the girls’ team.
On Jan. 12, the Lady Bulldogs were at home where they took on a team from Union Heights. The hoops would be hard to find for DWS, while their opponent struck an early lead.
Shelby Clayborn scored the only points for DWS in the first period, coming away with a two-point basket. Union Height bulldozed their way through with 12 points and a big lead.
Lydia Brown scored a two-pointer in the second period, while Union Heights matched her with two points of their own. UH held a 14-4 lead at halftime.
The Lady Bulldogs only scored two points in the third period, again from a two-point basket by Brown. Union Heights padded their lead with 16 more points. UH was up, 30-6.
Brown scored four two-pointers in the fourth period, while Harley Sloan had one. It would not be enough. UH only scored four points, but took the 34-16 victory.
The following day, the Lady Bulldogs were once more on their home court, this time battling a team from Defeated. Again, points would be hard to come by for DWS.
The Lady Bulldogs scored eight points in the first period, with Brown and Addison Oakley each getting a two-pointer and a free throw point, while Ashley Reynolds scored a two-point basket. Defeated took 10 points and the lead.
Brown and Kendra Whitehead each scored a two-pointer for the Lady Bulldogs in the second period. Defeated added 15 more points to the board, taking a 25-12 halftime lead.
DWS scored five in the third period, with Reynolds getting a pair of two-pointers, while Brown added a free throw point. Defeated added eight more points, increasing their lead, 33-17.
The Lady Bulldogs ended the game with six more points. Oakley scored a two-pointer, while Brown scored a two-point basket and a pair of free throws. Defeated added nine complimentary points, taking the 42-23 win.
Brown was four for six on free throws, while Oakley was one for two.
On Jan. 15, the Lady Bulldogs were on the road at Tuckers Crossroad for their final game of the season. The girls fought hard and would end the season on a positive note.
DWS scored eight points in the first period, with Brown getting a pair of two-pointers, while Oakley and Reynold each had one. TXR was held to only two points, giving DeKalb the early lead.
The Lady Bulldogs scored 12 points in the second period. Brown scored three two-point baskets and two free throw points, while Oakley got a pair of two-pointers. TXR was held to five points, giving DeKalb a 20-7 lead at the half.
Brown had three two-pointers in the third period, while Oakley added a free throw. TXR matched the Lady Bulldogs’ scored, getting seven points of their own. DWS was up, 27-14.
Brown, Clayborn, and Reynolds topped off the Lady Bulldogs’ score in the fourth period, with each of them getting a two-point basket. TXR was held to only four points, giving DeKalb the 33-18 victory.
Brown was two for three on free throws, while Oakley was one for two. Clayborn was zero for one, while Reynolds was zero for two.
