Members of the DeKalb County fishing team can tell their big fish stories with a straight face as they haul some monsters into the boat during their first tournament was held Saturday, Sept. 15 on Center Hill Lake.

The squad had nine boats out of a field of 85 boats. Several surrounding counties participated although the weather conditions was not ideal as it was too hot and breezy.

Several teams caught no fish at all.  “We were very proud of all of our members,” said team supporter Kim Young of their performance. “They represented DCHS very well.”

She explained that each boat has a captain, an adult that drives the boat. The captains cannot fish at all.

One of the DCHS teams finished in third place. Morgan Clifton and Braden Martin weighed in at 5.92 lbs.

“They also won a $25 gift card and we had another team that won a $25 gift card,” Young noted.

This team also has two female members.  They are Madison Ray and Olivia Taylor.

“We are looking forward to upcoming tournaments and having a lot of fun,” Young said, noting they will be entering various tournaments around the state. “We would like to thank the community for supporting us.”
